Karen Maccloskey

June 3, 1951 — December 5, 2016

Karen Lyndi Benedickson MacCloskey, 65, of McKinney, TX died on December 5 2016. Karen unexpectedly passed away on Monday evening surrounded by family at Baylor University Medical Center. Her father, Robert John Benedickson and mother Stella O'Connor Benedickson predecease her. Karen is survived by Michael, husband of 42 years, sons; Robert and Christian, daughter; Mical Lee and husband Jonathan, grandchildren; Connor, Seth, and Robert, sister; Dawn, brothers; Robert and John, sisters-in-law; Corinne, Denise, Laura, Christina, Jamie, and Le, brothers-in-law: Charlie, Mark, Matt, and Luke, nieces; Rachel, Michelle, Taylor, and Serena, nephews; Matthew, Christopher, Robert, Dylan, Jack, Lucas, Zeke, Callum, and cousin; Kim and daughter, Ariana.
Karen met Michael while at high school in Freehold, New Jersey, introduced by Michael's sister, Corinne, her life long friend. They were married in Sayreville, New Jersey on November 16, 1974. Karen and Michael bought a 7-Eleven franchise in 1974 and were the youngest franchisees in Southland Corporation history. Karen was the brains and Michael the brawn of the operation that employed virtually their entire family. Family was the cornerstone of Karen's world, as she was the foundation of our Family. Karen, while a mother, wife, sister, and friend was so much more to so many whose lives she touched. The lasting impact that Karen fulfilled hearts and minds with is immeasurable. Upon moving to Texas, Karen was soccer mom and co-manager of the NET Longhorns, a select team that played at the highest level of youth soccer, as well as managing youth swimming across Texas. As a devoted mother, she was constantly driving her children to Selwyn, Cistercian and Jesuit, not to mention the out of state tournaments. Sick, tired or cold, nothing-stopped Mom; she was always ready for the next event. Karen later continued her college education at TWU and was a perennial Dean's List honoree. As empty nesters, Karen and Michael moved to the uptown neighborhood of State-Thomas, long before it was fashionable. Remarkably, Karen was again blessed with the joy of motherhood in Christian, so it was back to the suburbs, raising their youngest son through High school and preparing the young man to enter the adult world. To Karen family is not just a good thing family is everything!
