Dr Eugenio F Cava

Dr. Eugenio Farrales Cava, age 87, entered eternity November 16th, 2016 in Plano, Texas, formerly of Spring Lake Park, Minnesota. He was born the 9th of 11 children to Nemesio and Francesca Cava in San Felipe, Philippines. Preceded in death by his beloved parents, wife Helen O. Cava, and 9 siblings. Survived by his beloved wife, Gloria Cava; children, Eugenio O. Cava, Jr. (Lynn), Genelene Collingham (John), David Cava, and Nicole Atkinson (Greg); grandchildren, Kathryn Rand-Santmeyer, Bryan Rand, Michael Collingham, Phoebe Collingham, Sarah Atkinson, Rebecca Atkinson, Emma Atkinson, Alex Atkinson, and Tommy Atkinson; sister Juanita Delos Reyes and extended family. He graduated from Far Eastern Medical School in 1957, interned at St. Marys Hospital in Minneapolis, MN, before returning to the Philippines to practice general medicine through the foreign exchange medical program. Dr. Cava immigrated to the United States to do his residency in Anesthesiology, practicing at Unity Hospital in Fridley, MN, then Maryland as a U.S. Army Lt. Colonel, before finally retiring from the Pennsylvania State Hospital in South Mountain, Pennsylvania in 1997. He obtained U.S. Citizenship in March of 1972. Eugenio was an excellent ballroom dancer, a skilled cook, who enjoyed his children/grandchildren whether his own or his extended families, as well as traveling the world and spending time with his family. Always an extremely hard worker, insuring that his family was better off than himself, he continued that ethic until his disease prevented him from doing so just days before his death, fighting valiantly against pancreatic cancer. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones because of his humility and high intelligence, along with his gentle caring heart. A Vigil Service will be held from 7:00 - 9:00pm on Tuesday November 22, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church 2700 W. Spring Creek Parkway Plano, Texas 75023. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated the following day at 10:30am on Wednesday November 23, 2016, also at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. A reception will follow. Following the reception, we will process to the Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery for the presentation of honors and burial at 2:15pm.
