Jerry Tipton Knight

January 6, 1933 — October 23, 2016

Jerry Tipton Knight was born in Dallas, Texas on January 6, 1933 to Samuel Tipton and Mildred Butler Knight. He was the oldest of three children and he grew up in the Highland Park, Dallas area where his dad owned a dry cleaner. Jerry was a member of the Reserve Officers Training Corps and wore the best pressed uniforms in his unit. He eventually received the title of Cadet Captain at North Dallas High School and went on to complete 4 years in the Naval Reserves. This was just the beginning of a very interesting life. Jerry was a great athlete who loved to water ski, snow ski, play golf and tennis. He went on to become a private pilot and earned his instrument and twin engine rating. It was not surprising that he found his life's passion in the aviation field and he worked until the day he died for Larry Ahlers. Not only was Larry his employer, he was also was a true and loyal friend. Jerry was also a member of The QB Aviation Club. Jerry is also a long time member of Christ United Methodist Church where he also served as treasurer. Jerry never met a stranger or feared telling a joke more than once. He spoke his mind and was the life of every party. His family knows that he will be present, in spirit, at the service to celebrate his life, because he would never miss a celebration that was all about him! Our dad was still not ready to give up on the fight for his life; he loved life more than anyone ever could have imagined. He knew there was a higher power requesting his presence, so on October 23, 2016, he went to join his parent Mimi and Tip; also waiting for him was his sister June Ruth Knight and his grandson Andrew Porter Anderson, others there as well were, Christy Lynn Toon and Aunt Jean. We asked him to send us a sign that he arrived safely; but we know he will be slow about it, just like we were when we were supposed to let him know we got somewhere alright. Jerry left behind two daughters that will miss him with all their hearts, Susan Barrett and her husband James, Amy Sargent and her husband Wayne, their mother Shirley Knight and the very best and most compassionate companion Wilma Demming. His grandchildren, Sara, Samuel and Caroline Anderson, Tyler and Landon Sargent. He also leaves great grandchildren Jacob Robinson, Carly Anderson, Aniston Coppi and Liam Anderson. His brother, David Knight and wife Judy. When we look overhead or hear an airplane roar, we know he is home above the clouds and beyond the stars. Dad we will miss you and over time the pain will become less, but our memories will remain strong and bright just like the stars you look through to check on us every night. Good night, sweet dreams; we love you, Susan and Amy. A celebration of Jerry's life will be held Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Christ United Methodist Church, 3101 Coit Rd, Plano, Texas 75075. Jerry will be laid to rest at the Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, Texas
