Elmir Gevorgyan, 81, died peacefully in the presence of his wife, loving sons and his younger brother at his home in Plano, Texas, on Thursday, October 6, 2016.
Born on August, 27, 1935, in Voskevaz, Armenia to Tsolak and Aghavni Gevorgyan, Elmir was the first son followed by two siblings. He graduated high school in Tbilisi, Georgia where he lived temporarily for few years, finding refuge, while his parents were in exile in Siberia. Then, he returned to Armenia to study Chemistry in Armenian State University. Upon graduation, he started his work as a researcher in The National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, in Institute of Organic Chemistry. Subsequently, he continued his work as head of chemical lab in largest industrial enterprise of Armenia, ArmElectro. His career continued in Yerevan Polytechnic Institute as a research engineer, where he obtained his PhD degree in Chemical Engineering. This is when, he met the love of his life and his future wife for 53 years, Anahit. The marriage was blessed with two sons. Most of his professional life continued to be associated with Yerevan Polytechnic Institute, where he served as Provost for more than a decade along with teaching chemical science in the same university. Afterwards, he was Head of Administration of National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, which he retired from to join his sons in United States.
Elmir is survived by his wife Anahit, sons Vahan and Vahagn, daughters-in-law Mara and Iryna, grandchildren Anaida, Levon, Ara, Aram and Mikael, brothers Aram and Alfred.
Elmir was a respected member of his community and devoted all his life helping others.
