Sharon Schlosser Babb

April 13, 1945 — September 21, 2016

Sharon Babb was called home by her Lord September 21, 2016 after a courageous battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and cousin. Sharon enjoyed spending her time with family and friends. She enjoyed playing bridge and sports very much. She loved to play softball, tennis, and golf. Her sweet, caring nature endeared her to so many. She was born on Friday, April 13, 1945 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee to Jack Schlosser and Joyce Heisig Schlosser. She graduated from Radford College in Radford, Virginia with a degree in Elementary Education in 1966. Sharon married John R. Babb in 1966. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They settled in Richardson, Texas before moving to Plano in 1975. She was very active at First Presbyterian Church in Richardson, Texas. She served as an office and clothes closet volunteer, Sunday School teacher, and ruling Elder. While an Elder, she was chairperson of the Mission Ministry. She was also an active member of P.E.O. and El's Belles. Sharon was an elementary school teacher in RISD for 28 years. Most of her teaching tenure was in the 6th grade. During her last year of teaching she was awarded an Honorary Life Membership by the Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers. Sharon and John loved to play golf together and enjoyed many of the golf courses around Texas. She was an avid reader and was a regular member of her church book club. Sharon is survived by her loving and devoted husband, John; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Thomas Hanley of Lewisville, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, David and Jennifer Babb of Spring, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Scott and Shirley Pirnie of Atlanta, Georgia; sister, Susan S. Johnson of Richardson, Texas; five grandchildren, Gage and Kendall Hanley and Caroline, Dylan, and Garrett Babb. A memorial service celebrating the life of Sharon Babb will be held at Saint Barnabas Presbyterian Church, 1220 West Beltline Road, Richardson, Texas, 75080, at 3:00 pm on Friday, September 30, 2016. A private burial service will be held at the DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas . In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 271 N. Walton Street, Richardson, Texas 75081.
