Joy Clinch

September 8, 1923 — June 20, 2016

Alice Joy Wisener Clinch, age 92, passed peacefully in Dallas on June
20th, 2016. Born in Douglas, TX, on September 8th, 1923 to Fred Ramey and
Nena Verline (King) Wisener, Joy graduated from Douglas High School and
attended Southern Methodist University on scholarship, where she graduated
with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. During the war years,
Dallasites Percy and Dorcas Relyea introduced her to Norman Edward "Jim"
Clinch, a Royal Air Force pilot stationed at a training base in Terrell, Texas. In
1946 Joy took a cargo ship to England with a couple of fellow Texan "war
brides." Joy and Jim married in Newbury, Berkshire, on June 8th, 1946. In
1949 they booked passage on a freight liner, and after 18 days at sea landed in
Brownsville, TX. After settling in Dallas, Joy worked for many years as a
secretary and executive assistant at Johnson & Johnson, Gulf Insurance
Company, and Central and Southwest Corporation. Joy and Jim were two of the
earliest members of Northway Baptist Church in Dallas, where she was a
faithful choir member. She and Jim taught a young couples' Sunday School
class for years, before Joy began teaching a class for young married women.
Even today, some of these women talk about the tremendous impact Joy had on
their lives. After moving to Plano in 1977, Joy and Jim became charter
members of Hunters Glen Baptist Church. They were active in the choir, and
Joy was the well-loved teacher of a ladies' Sunday School class well into her
80s. Joy was known for her hospitality, including her desire and ability to learn
people's names. One of her dearest pleasures was to gather her family in her
home for special celebrations. Her Italian Cream Cake was legendary. She had
a well-worn prayer chair. She loved to read and memorize Scripture. Joy lived
up to her name. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim, and
her siblings Doris Maxine Wisener Lee, Ted Ray Wisener (LaVerne), Bonnie
Oliver Wisener (JoAnn), and Gerald Austin Wisener. She is survived by her
brothers Fred Darrell Wisener (Louise) and Young King Wisener (Sara); her
children Allison Clinch Ware, Stephen Andrew Clinch (Sharon), and Geoffrey
Charles Clinch (Karren); her grandchildren Collin Daniel Ware, Jonathan
William Ware, Mary Clinch Beck (Cam), Samuel Edward Clinch, John Tyler
Clinch, Chad Austin Clinch (Kelley), and Alyssa Leigh Clinch; and her greatgrandchildren
Faith Beck, Channing Beck, Paisley Beck, and Austin Clinch,
who is expected to arrive in August. Visitation will be Friday, June 24th, 2016,
from 6 to 8 PM, at Allen Family Funeral Options, 2120 W Spring Creek Pkwy,
Plano, TX 75023. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 25th, 2016, at
10 AM at Hunters Glen Baptist Church, 4001 Custer Rd, Plano, TX 75023,
followed by a burial at 4:00PM in Douglas, TX. Memorials may be made to Hunters Glen
Baptist Church.
