David Hugh Bartlett

April 2, 1948 — April 8, 2016

David was born in Toronto, Canada, April 2, 1948. His family moved to Dallas when he was 8 years old. He was in the Boy Scouts and played Ice Hockey. He collected stamps and loved traveling. He attended college at Stephen F. Austin where he met Judy, his wife of 45 years. He completed his degree at North Texas State University. David earned a Master degree from Amber University. He remained in the Dallas area where he had a career in Finance and Real Estate. David was Judy's love of her life and best friend. Although they had many close friends, they cherished the fact that they enjoyed each other's company. He was a great Dad to his two children, Brian and Sarah, and a wonderful grandfather to his grandson, Nickolas. Brian remembers that his Dad taught him to always be honest and to do the right thing no matter what. He was caring and let Brian be himself, even when it wasn't his choice. With great regret he bought Brian a motorcycle and drum set. Brian always knew he had his Dad on his side and always had his love. Family was important to him and there are many memories of vacations and time spent together. Sarah remembers how much her Dad loved getting together as a family. He would grill steaks and they would sit around and talk for hours. He always wanted the best for his children and she knew they could count on him for anything. According to Sarah, he was so smart and yet laid back at the same time. Once he retired he was usually seen in shorts, t-shirt and sandals. Nick has so many great memories with his grandfather. He loved being at the farm and enjoying nature. He and Pop just loved going on RV trips and traveling around the country. Nick knows his Grandpa is just hanging with Jesus. David was a good father-in-law to Jim. He tried not to meddle in their lives too much, but was always willing to give advice or lend a helping hand. One of Jim's best times with Dave was in Vegas. David and Judy decided to be a part of Jim and Sarah's wedding day. David did not have a lot of experience gambling and was taught how to play Wheel of Fortune. He started to win big and lost track of time. They almost didn't make it to the church on time for the wedding. This wasn't his last time at a slot machine. David was a strong leader and Christ follower who cared so much for his family and others around him. He gave back to the community in many ways. He was a Life Group Leader at Chase Oaks Church, president of the Plano Good Sam's RV group, and very actively involved in the Silhouette HOA. He initiated several ideas for improving the neighborhood and made sure that they were accomplished. Whatever he was involved in; he took it seriously and did his best. He never wanted to let anyone down. We rejoice that he is walking with God, but we will miss him terribly. David is survived by his wife, Judy Selden Bartlett; children Brian William Bartlett and fiancée Marisa Abernathy, Sarah Bartlett Packard and husband, James Packard; and his grandson Nickolas William Bartlett; niece Elizabeth Bartlett Nance and several cousins, in-laws, and many other nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth Nourse Bartlett and William Edsall Bartlett, and his only brother, Craig Edsall Bartlett. Heaven gained another angel on Friday. Dave Bartlett was a great man, husband, father and friend that was taken too soon from this world. He was a great man and helped with many projects but one of his big passions was his neighborhood park that he spent his time and efforts working with his Hoa and the city of Allen to make a beautiful place for everyone. In lieu of flowers the family would like to be able to have a bench put in the park in memory of Dave. We thank everyone in advance for helping remember such a wonderful man. A memorial service to celebrate and remember David will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Chase Oaks Church, 201 Legacy Dr., Plano, Texas. David will be laid to rest at Pecan Grove Cemetery, McKinney, Texas. The family would like to place a bench in a local park in David's honor and if you so desire, in lieu of flowers, please visit the Go Fund Me page shown below and contribute : https://www.gofundme.com/ymyeqtdc?pc=expt_em_co_shareflow_m_89_2&rcid=5bb116f4ff5611e5b22ebc764e05901c
