Jerry Alan Meyer, age 78, passed away on December 24, 2015 due to the complications of rare gallbladder cancer.
Jerry was born in St. Louis, Missouri on January 5, 1937 to Clarence and Margaret (Wagschal). He earned a degree in aeronautical engineering from St. Louis University. After graduation, he served three years in the U.S. Air Force. Jerry worked as a rocket scientist for the first decade of his career. Later he moved into sales for scientific instrumentation products.
In 1961, Jerry married Joyce Reinhardt, the mother of his daughters Gail Plusquellec (John) and Karen. After her death, he married Heidi (Hutton), the mother of Jeffry Lewis (Rhonda) and John Lewis (Natalie). They relished the adventures of their "Brady Bunch" for many years. When he became a widower again, he married Madeline (Lange) who survives him. She is the mother of Nancy Lenart (Todd) and Peter van der Ziel (Jennifer). He is also survived by his sister, Jeannine Kaufman (Alan), eleven grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jerry planned many flight simulation trips and actual travel to Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, Australia/New Zealand and Cape Cod. He was a season ticket holder for the Plano Symphony Orchestra for many years, a member of the Pathfinder Sunday School Class, and played cards and Mah Jongg. He taught a couple of classes for SAIL (Seniors Active in Learning) and enrolled in many classes offered.
Jerry was an optimist, a quiet, thoughtful and caring man with a ready sense of humor who enjoyed being with family and friends, He was a Mr. Fix-It and a problem solver. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
A service to celebrate Jerry's life will be held in the chapel at Custer Road United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 2 PM. The church is located at 6601 Custer Road in Plano, Texas, south of Legacy. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerry's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
