Derrick Mee

Derrick Newton Mee died November 4, 2015. A Memorial Service is planned on November 14, 2015 at the Allen Christian Church on St Mary Drive, Allen, Texas at 11:00 AM. Scott Lowrey, Chaplain for Compassionate Care Hospice, will conduct the service.

Derrick was born in Rockwood, Tennessee on February 17, 1937. He was the second of four children born to Mary Florence (Derrick) Mee and Carl E. Mee, Jr. He grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee and attended "The Baylor School" excelling in sports and academics. As a Cadet at Baylor, he was known for his honor and integrity. He also was one of the most talented quarterbacks that Baylor ever had! He then attended the University of Chattanooga (UTC) where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and graduated with a BA degree in Business Administration. He was also a member of the Tennessee National Guard.

On July 27, 1963 in Cleveland, Tennessee he married Karyl (Cookie) Lee Mee, his wife of 52+
years. Five children were born to this union: Derrick N. (Buddy) Mee, Jr, - Fulshear, Texas; William M. Mee, - Heath, Texas; Charles David Mee - Houston, Texas; Mary Karyl (Mee) Ehlert - Allen, Texas and Madeline Randolph Mee (deceased).

Derrick enjoyed a stellar career as a management consultant with The Hay Group. Honor,
professionalism, trust, kindness and respect are a few of the adjectives ascribed to this true
Southern Gentleman. In addition to his professional career he was active in various volunteer and charitable efforts directly and in support of his wife Cookie which include the Big Brothers, Blood Bank, and Charity League to name a few.

He and Cookie were expert movers. Towns lived in include: Cleveland, Tennessee; Eufaula, Alabama; Nashville, Tennessee area; Dallas, Texas area; Atlanta, Georgia; Houston, Texas; Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico...then back to the Dallas area.

He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Mary Florence (Mom & Big Carl); a daughter Madeline Randolph Mee; a brother Carl Mee III. He is survived by his wife Karyl (Cookie) Lee Mee; son Derrick N. (Buddy) Mee, Jr and wife Melissa, children - Morgan & Brandon; son William Michael Mee and wife Robin, children - Mallory & Alyssa; son Charles David Mee and wife Celeste, children - Luke & Andrew; daughter Mary Karyl Mee Ehlert and husband Steve Ehlert, children - Kody & Kolton; brother Mike Mee and wife Donnette - Birmingham, Alabama; sister Ann Mee - Atlanta, Georgia; sisters-in-law Lynda Mee - Pickens, South Carolina and Pat Lee Henley - Johnson City, Tennessee; brothers-in-law Bob Lee and wife Polly - Cleveland, Tennessee; Russell Lee and wife Sally - Cleveland, Tennessee; Numerous Nieces, Nephews and Cousins who loved him as well. In addition to displaying great love for his children, he adored "The Grands"!

The family expresses grateful thanks for the love and care provided by the various caregivers during his illness.

The family requests any memorial gifts be made to the Derrick Mee Memorial Fund at the Baylor School, 171 Baylor School Road, Chattanooga, Tennessee, 37405 Attn: Rob Robinson. The funds will support qualified and deserving students that will honor his legacy.
