David Scott Speer was born July 6, 1951 in Midland, Texas to parents Robert Lee and Corey Katherine Speer. His father worked as an accountant for an oil Company in Midland and in 1953 the Speer family moved to Dallas. Scotty, as he was known to many, spent his entire boyhood in Dallas. He attended James B. Bonham Elementary School, Alex W. Spence Jr. High School, and graduated in 1969 from North Dallas High School and he was one of the best basketball players in DISD while at North Dallas. He worked his way through college at a Safeway Store in Austin and Denton and graduated from North Texas State University with an Accounting degree in 1976 and later became a CPA. David loved The University of Texas Longhorns and enjoyed watching their sporting events and loved to attend the annual Texas/OU game. He loved Mexican food, the Beatles, playing golf and the Dallas Cowboys. David referred basketball and was also a softball umpire. He played softball himself in the Dallas City leagues well into his 50's. David married Reanell in 1997 and was known to his grandchildren as "Pops". David was a Christian man and was an active member of Prestonwood Baptist Church. He attended the men's bible study on Friday mornings each week. David was kind and gentle and was loved by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife Reanell, daughter Melissa Beilstein, grandchildren, Megan Swanson, Monica Swanson and Anthony Beilstein, brother, Johnny and his wife Heidi, niece and nephew, Michael and Jennifer Speer. A celebration of David's life will be held Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at 2:00 PM in Faith Chapel at Prestonwood Baptist Church, 6801 W Park, Plano, Texas 75093.
