Billy Joe Deweese

March 24, 1929 — October 25, 2015

Billy Joe DeWeese was born in Central Texas in 1929 to Ora and Susie. We're pretty sure he came out telling jokes and never really stopped. Good jokes, bad jokes, jokes he told over and over againsome of them real stinkers, but they all became a part of our family history. Our dad loved to laugh. And he loved his family. The only one he loved more than our family was his Lord. And he's with Him there in Heaven now. Dad gave his life to Jesus way back in grade school and never looked back. He grew up in Gonzales and was quick to tell you that it was the "Come and Take It" town. He was big on the Come and Take It Cannon, the Alamo and the history of Texas. He was the class clown at Gonzales High School, went on to crack up the student body of Baylor University and joined the United States Air Force where he had his fellow pilots rolling on the floor of the cockpit 20 thousand feet in the air. He served 23 years in the USAF and was stationed in England, Texas, Thailand, New Mexico, Florida and Hawaii. He retired from the Air Force and moved to Lubbock,Texas where he bought a Midas Muffler Shop. That man loved to tinker with cars! Later he and Mom bought Agape Personnel and put people to work all over the Lone Star state. Mom and Dad finally moved to the Piney Woods of East Texas at Lake Holly Ranch where they spent their mornings on the golf course, their afternoons in the ski boat and the rest of their time at their church, Holly Brook Baptist.
Bill DeWeese was known as Dad to his children, Poppy to his grands and great grands, Billy Joe to anybody who knew him as a kid, Brother DeWeasel Nose to his frat brothers at Baylor and Major DeWeese to his fellow pilots and USAF friends.
He took pride in his kids, chased his wife all over the house, and served his Savior all his life. He played secret Santa for countless underprivileged families more times than any of us know abouthe preferred to lend a hand anonymously. He served as a deacon, led worship in the choir, chaired the pastor search committee, swung many a hammer on new church builds and if you were a kid selling lemonade, even really bad lemonade on his blockyou had yourself a customer. He bought more Girl Scout Cookies than he should have because his daughter needed to sell them. He went to every track and swim meet because it meant the world to his son to see his dad up in the stands. He racked up thousands of miles on the car going to see his grandson compete in golf tournaments because he loved the game of golf and loved his grandson more. And he loved his girl, Frances with his whole heart. He was Mom's champion for more than 60 years. He was her great teller of bad jokes. She was his greatest audience. Wonder if he's cracking somebody up in Heaven right this minute! We'll miss you so much Dad, but we know we'll see you again soon! We love you forever and thank you for being our wonderful father, grandfather, husband, mentor, cheerleader, encourager, backboneand friend
He is survived by his wife Frances DeWeese, children Vicki Ford and her husband David, Billy DeWeese and his wife Suzanne, grandchildren Chris Hutson and his wife Jessica, Caylan DeWeese , Chloe DeWeese, great grandchild Palmer Hutson and many loving nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6-8 PM on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Allen Family Funeral Options.
