Frances Caroline Carroll

Frances Caroline Johnson Carroll was born on July 10, 1932 in Cheyenne, Wyoming to parents Archie and Katherine Johnson. Her family moved to Laramie, Wyoming when she was 12 years old. There, she graduated high school and was in her fourth year at college when her life took a change. While at a square dance, she met Charles Carroll, a young Airmen, stationed at Frances C Warren AFB in Cheyenne. They married on March 25, 1954 and for the next 18 plus years; she not only traveled the states but the world. She proved how strong of a woman she was, when most were strictly, housewives. With Charles being away several of those years, Frances filled the role of both mom and dad. She not only kept a family running that grew to include 5 kids, she often helped other military wives. She had a driver's license at a time, when only few women drove. Twice, she traveled half way around the world; with first three and then 5 children in tow to be with Charles who was shipped there earlier. Although at times it was hard especially when separated from her husband, she would not have traded that time for anything. After they retired from the Air Force, the two of them settled in Woodward, Oklahoma where she was able to be a wife, mom and homemaker. She was a member of TOPS (take off pounds sensibly) where she received state honors as second runner up for most weight lost in a year. During her free time, she enjoyed bowling and her new learned sport, golf. In what later would be a twist of fate, she cared for Charles's grandfather during his later years. When Charles retired in 1994, they traded in their house for an RV. For the next 5 years, the two of them spent 12 months a year living in it, as they wound their way through 46 of the 48 lower states. They would have made it 47 but "Frances" chased them away from Maine. That was hurricane Frances, not Frances Carroll. In 1999, they sold the RV and purchased a double -wide trailer and settled down in Alamo, where they wintered during their RV years. Their days were filled playing golf, trips to Mexico to shop and participating in activities in the RV Park. Although they enjoyed South Texas, in 2005, she moved to Sallisaw, Oklahoma with Charles, to allow him to help look after both his mom and sister. It was during their time in Sallisaw that she began to show signs of Alzheimer's disease. Although there were strong signs of the disease, she would refuse to accept help. Over the next eight or nine years, the disease gradually took more of her memory. Until the last 6 months, she was confined to a bed. Having been married 60 plus years, her loving husband chose to keep her at home and spent his days caring for her. On October 19, 2015, Frances lost her fight and went to be with the Lord. Frances is survived by her husband Charles (Chuck) Carroll, children Martha (Marty) Carroll, Thomas (Tom) Carroll and his wife Edna, Charles (Chuck) Carroll and his wife Teresa, grandchildren Cezar, Kristine, Kathyrine, Caroline, Karyl, Trisha and Darrell, 6 great grandchildren, sister Sandra Fegler and her husband Dave. She was preceded in death by her sister Victoria Herte and children Bonnie Ford, Charles Victor Carroll and Frances Elizabeth Carroll. Family will receive friends for a visitation Thursday, October 22, 2015 from 8:30-9:00 AM at Allen Family Funeral Options, Plano, Texas. A service to celebrate Frances life will follow visitation at 9:15 AM. She will be laid to rest at the Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, Texas at 11:30 AM.
