Matthew Thompson

Matthew Eric Thompson was born September 22, 1984 in Oceanside, California to parents Kim and John Thompson. He died suddenly on August 31, 2015 in Austin, Texas. Following high school in Plano, Texas, Matt moved to Austin where he attended college and began his career in the food and beverage industry. Matt (known to his friends as Big Daddy) never met a stranger and always greeted everyone with his genuine, big smile. Once in his presence, he made you feel as if you were the only person in the room and that you could move mountains. Matt was truly loved by all. His many friends loved his quick wit, his kindness and compassion for others and his amazing talent as a guitarist. His friends and co-workers at Firehouse will forever remember the many stories that reflected the man that Matt had become.

Life is so precious and we never know when we will be taken. Tell the people in your life how much you love them and don't take for granted that tomorrow will come. Matt will be missed and never forgotten.


Matt is survived by his mother Kim Thompson of Frisco, Texas, fiancé Jillian Gorski of Austin, Texas, grandfather Waymon Reed of Pottsboro, Texas, aunts and uncles Kurt and Tonya Grimminger of Prosper, Texas and Barry and Shannon Reed of Frisco, Texas and cousins Jordan Grimminger, Taylor Haynes, Zachary Grimminger, Tyler Reed, Jake Reed, Stevie Daye Grimminger and Garrett Haynes. He was preceded in death by his father John Eric Thompson and grandmother Diane Reed.

Matt's life celebration will be held on Sunday, September 6th at 3:00 p.m. at The Sanctuary, 6633 Virginia Parkway, Suite 102, McKinney, Texas 75071.
