Cc Permenter

December 14, 1930 — August 30, 2015

C.C. Permenter was born December 14, 1930 in Huxley, Texas. That means the Great Depression had already started when he made his way into the world. He was the son of Ettie and Oscar Permenter. Tragically, his biological father died due to an illness when C.C. was only 7 months old. His mother married Bud Oswalt when C.C. was still young, and Bud raised C.C. just as he did their two younger boys. While he was young, the family moved to Orange, Texas so his parents could both work in the shipyard because workers were so desperately needed. Later they moved back to Center, where C.C. was raised. C.C. learned at a young age the value of work as he was splitting shingles by the time he was 7 years old, helping Bud with his carpentry work. Working with his hands was a life-long skill he developed and honed as he matured into his teenage years. When C.C. was about 17, he was working with a skill saw, which hit a knot in the wood or something and jumped, landing on and slicing C.C.'s thigh. MANY stitches and a lot of pain later, he decided to become a mechanic. At some point while in Center, he also went to electrical school in the old airplane hangar on the Shelby Highway. He was therefore, a man with many talents: carpentry, mechanics, and electrician. Danny attributes C.C. to teaching him about mechanics and getting him into that. Through C.C.'s career as a mechanic, he earned multiple awards from Ford Motor Company and was one of their master mechanics, who trained and taught others, just like he'd done with his brother many years before. After retiring, he returned to his love of carpentry, working as a finishing carpenter on new homes. C.C. and Mary Lou also made children's furniture and toys for their grandkids and family. Danny recalled one time when he was very little, CC and Virgil (a relative) were building church benches. Danny, having come in from the rain, picked up a tool that was plugged in and was being so shocked by it that he couldn't turn loose of it or speak. C.C. went to him and hit Danny so hard that Danny and the tool separated. Danny said he was really mad for getting hit so hard (C.C. was 15 years older) until C.C. explained that if he had used less force, they both would have been electrocuted instead. Danny credits C.C. with saving his life. C.C. married Jimmie Lou when they were young and they had Janise. They later divorced and he married Frankie. That marriage also faltered, ending in divorce. Then he met and married Mary Lou, bringing John and Jane into the fold. C.C. and Lou were married for 38 years, until his death on August 30, 2015. During these years, they lived in Crockett and Whitney, Texas and multiple retirement facilities during the last couple of years until they landed at The Conservatory in Plano, Texas, which he loved calling home. C.C. considered himself lucky to be able to do what he wanted in retirement, which was to travel. C.C. and Lou's first motorhome, bought shortly after they married, unfortunately was stolen. They had to replace it and learned to upgrade on features, which led them to upgrading again and again over the years, eventually owning 15 different R.V.'s. During their traveling years, they passed through or camped in all the 49 continental states, including Alaska. Through their years in the Travel clubs, they made a lot of friends, and enjoyed living in the R.V. community in Whitney for more than a dozen years, after leaving Crockett. Grandkids will happily recall moments with C.C. doing things that for him were ordinary, but for little ones were special. He loved his grandkids and loved taking them riding on the tractor with him, swimming, and teaching about nature, like showing them what a mud-dauber was when they were panicking about "a BEE!" Everyone who knew him will remember his easy smile, kind heart, and willingness to help another. C.C. is survived by his WIFE Mary Lou Permenter, CHILDREN Janise Permenter, John (Leslie) Hines, Jane Stewart, GRANDCHILDREN Brandi (Elliott) Haltom, James Edwards, Jim (Katy) Hines, Stacey (Wes) Jordan, Arthur Stewart, Jr., GREAT GRANDCHILDREN Taylor Denney, Skylar (Micah) Mumm, Ethan Haltom, Dylan Denney, Makenzie Jordan, Jacoby Jordan, Bethanie Jordan, Rosalie Jordan and one GREAT-GREAT GRANDSON Chase Mumm, brother Danny (June) Oswalt and many loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Ettie Oswalt and Oscar Permenter, step-father Bud Oswalt and brother Dennis (Maxine) Oswalt. The family will receive friends at a visitation Friday, September 4, 2015 from 5:30-7:30 PM at Allen Family Funeral Options. A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Glenwood Cemetery in Crockett, Texas.
