Jerry grew up in Doyline, Louisiana and graduated high school. He then went on to college at
LSU and graduated at Northwest University in Louisiana. He got his degree in accounting and
was a CPA for 15 years before moving on to Real Estate. Jerry owned several real estate offices.
He enjoyed traveling, snow skiing and playing golf. He loved LSU football and was a devoted
fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He also loved collecting rare coins and his favorite pass time was
listening to Elvis. He knew almost every song by heart. He also enjoyed attending church at
Prestonwood Baptist Church and was a member of the Encouragers class for several years. He
and Jan started attending the Dallas campus in January of 2015.
He was a published author and enjoyed writing. His book, "Does God Give Us More Than We Can
Bear?" made the Amazon best seller list. His God-given purpose was fulfilled in bringing hope
and inspiration through sharing his testimony to countless people worldwide.
Jerry lived 11 1/2 years beyond what the normal death rate is for the disease of Pulmonary
Fibrosis and used each day of those years to the fullest. After a long hard battle with the
disease, he now lives forever, pain free and in peace. Jerry is survived by his wife Jan Smith, children Roger Smith and his wife Vicky, Susan Smith Hightower, Jerry B. Smith, Jr., Cindy Bailey Harris and her husband Robert and Cathi Hohlt and her husband Kevin. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 1 great - grandchild.
The family will greet friends at a visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Allen Family Funeral Options. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Prestonwood Baptist Church, 6801 W. Park Blvd., Plano, Texas 75093. Jerry will be laid to rest at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas.
