Kenneth Lee Quick, "Kenny" was born in Charleston, West Virginia to parents "Francie" and "Buzz". He was the middle child of sisters Nancy and Terri. He was a funny, independent boy with a mind of his own. He graduated from Poca High School in Poca, West Virginia.
As a young adult, he had many adventures in mischief with his lifelong buddy, Brent Mallory, among others. Brent has been a wonderful friend to Kenny before and after his life changing motorcycle accident in 2011. His son Kendall looks to him like an uncle. He is a very kind and likable man with fond memories and interesting stories recalling the fun they had together.
Kenny worked doing press room maintenance for the Charleston Newspaper, and later took a job at the Dallas Morning News and made Plano, Texas their home. He made many friends there over his 28 years of employment.
He met Charlene when he was 20 and she was 18. They've been together 35 years. They were loving parents to their only son, Kendall. Kenny took him everywhere. Their favorite travels were to NASCAR races, Talladega, and deep sea fishing. Kenny also loved hanging out on his deck overlooking the pool in the backyard.
Since surviving a tragic motorcycle accident in 2011 that resulted in a traumatic brain injury he has endured many surgeries and gone through extensive rehab. Charlene has devoted her life to caring for his every need. She is an amazing woman with a special place in heaven for all the loving care she has provided him with.
In his last days, he was surrounded with love by many who spent day and night at his bedside, never leaving him alone. He proved to be quite the fighter. Kenny was loved by many, and will be dearly missed by family and friends alike. He is survived by his wife Charlene Midkiff, son Kendall Quick and his wife Summer, granddaughter Sterling Threet, grandson Sawyer Quick, father Richard "Buzz" Quick, sisters Terri Quick Spinks and Nancy Quick Myers, nieces and nephews Brad Hickman, Tiffany Hickman Smith, Derek Spinks, Cory Jarrett, Casey Jarrett, Skyler Young, Afton Myers and great friends Brent, Clay, and James and his loving dog "Scooter". Kenny is preceded in death by his mother
Emma "Francie" Francis Quick and step mother Jerry Quick. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 1, 2015 at 6:00 pm at Allen Family Funeral Options.
If desired, contributions may be made in Kenny's name to www.apfed.org for research to aid in Eosinophilic Esophagitis, the lifelong condition that his grandson, Sawyer Quick, has.
