Deacon Jack Gulino passed away at Las Colinas Medical Center in Irving, Texas on March 12, 2015. He was born on June 15, 1952, in New York, New York to Anna and Giaacchino Gulino. Both of his parents were Sicilian immigrants and Jack was the sixth of seven children. Italian was Jack's first language. His sister Lena taught him English so he could fit in at school.
His family had a very strong Catholic faith, and they were very active in their church. Jack attended St. Rita's Catholic Elementary School in Queens, New York and Cathedral Preparatory School and Seminary in Elmhurst, New York. It was Jack's intention to enter the priesthood. His plans changed after he met Patricia Pesce in a choir loft over a song book.
Jack and Trish married in October of 1971. Because he was under 21, his mother had to go with them to give her legal consent for the marriage license. Jack and Trish had two daughters, Karen Denise and Jaclyn Mary.
Jack graduated from Brooklyn College with a B.S. in Geology. He later earned an MBA, Human Resources Management & Management Information Systems, from Pace University.
Jack began his career at Verizon, when it was originally New York Telephone in 1978. He became the manager of the Richardson Data Lab when they moved to Plano, Texas in 1994 and continued in that role until his passing. Jack worked with many of the same people for the entire time he was in Richardson and considered his team his extended family.
Jack and Trish were welcomed into the faith community of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton upon their arrival in Plano. Over time, Jack's participation in all aspects of the parish grew. Jack was active with the youth programs, RCIA, a Eucharistic Minister, a lector, a core team member of the men's ACTS retreat, and on the parish council. After six years in Formation, Jack was ordained as a permanent Deacon in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Dallas in June of 2006. After his ordination, Jack was overjoyed to be assigned to his home parish. Jack was a devoted servant of the parishioners of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, and was available to assist in any capacity whenever he was called upon.
Some of Jack's other passions were coffee, sports, and travel. He was happiest when he could have all three at the same time.
Jack is survived by his wife, Trish, his daughters, Karen and Jaclyn; his brothers, Lou (Annabelle), and Frank (Theresa); his sisters, Mary Sutton (John), and Lena Brezin, and sister-in-law, Dolores Gulino; by many nieces and nephews. Jack is pre-deceased by his parents, Anna and Giaacchino; his brothers Tony and John; and his nephew Anthony. He is also survived by his beloved pets, Lulu and Elliot, and his grand-puppy, Billy.
A Vigil Service will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at 7:00 PM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2700 W. Spring Creek Pkwy., Plano, Texas 75023. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 18, 2015 also at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Jack will be laid to rest at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas.
