James (Jim) Stumph passed away due to complications of a reoccurring brain tumor on March 1, 2015 at the Medical Center of Plano, Plano, Texas. He was surrounded by his daughters. Jim was born on January 16, 1937 in Speedway Indiana. As a young boy, Jim enjoyed making money parking cars in open lots for the Indy 500 races. Jim excelled as a student and athlete in school, participating in the debate club, varsity baseball, football and track. Jim graduated from the General Motors Institute (GMI) with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering in 1961 and completed his Master of Science from the University of Detroit in 1969. Jim was very dedicated to his work at General Motors in the Detroit area. In 1975 he participated in an Engineer Swap with Opel in Wiesbaden, Germany. Later, he pioneered the creation of the Diagnostic and Repair Centers in various locations across the U.S.to better serve the customer. Retiring after 37 years of service, Jim relocated with his family to Franklin, Tennessee where he continued working in the automotive industry selling fleet vehicles at Walker Chevrolet Oldsmobile Dealership. Jim then moved to Texas to be closer to his daughters and he absolutely loved his time with them. He also enjoyed working at the local golf course, watching civil war reenactments, spending summers with his grandson and supporting many of the varied activities at church. A devoted husband and father, we will miss his enthusiasm for God and life, his energy and sense of humor. He loved us unconditionally and was the greatest mentor we will ever have. Jim is survived by his wife Kay Stumph, daughters Gail Gendich, Sandra Shelton and Carol Lee, grandson Roland Gendich and his wife Kaylee, great grandson R.J. and great granddaughter Reese Gendich, siblings Richard Stumph and his wife Janice, Charlotte Bennett and her husband John and Charles Stumph and his wife Roz. He is preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Louise Stumph (Thompson). A memorial service will be held to celebrate Jim's life on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Christ Church Plano, 4550 Legacy Dr., Plano, Texas with a reception to follow in the church fellowship hall. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas.
