Jon Carroll Husted

February 4, 1938 — January 13, 2015

Jon was born in Atoka, Oklahoma on February 4, 1938 to Decie Ann and William Augustus Husted. He was preceded in death by both his parents and all of his siblings (Joe Solon, Patrick Solon, W.R. Husted, Daniel Husted, Iowana Howard, and Margaret Foley.)

He is survived by his loving wife Karin, daughters Michelle Linder and her husband Chad, Monica Husted-Navarrete and her husband Carlos, grandchildren Logan and Alex Linder and Jonathan and Katelyn Navarrete. Also surviving are many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jon spent his childhood years in Kansas, but spent his teens in the suburbs of Los Angeles, California where he attended Bell High School. He trained as part of the National Guard during high school and soon after graduation, joined the Air Force in July 1957 (despite being afraid of flying). He did basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas as part of Squadron 3704. He was then stationed at Hamilton Air Force Base in San Francisco, California, where he spent the next four years serving his country. He loved to tell stories about his antics in San Francisco with his Air Force buddies.

After the Air Force, Jon drove four of his nieces as well as his mother to Denison, Texas, where they joined the girls' father, Pat Solon, and settled down. After his stay in Denison, Jon moved to Dallas where he took a job as regional supervisor for Ellen's Dress Shops. While at Ellen's, he met and became friends with Peter Schuster, who designed the shops' window displays. In May 1965, Peter decided to set Jon up on a blind date to go bowling with his sister, Karin, who had just recently moved to the United States. Even though her bowling skills were lacking, she won Jon's heart with her German home cooking and they were married six months later on November 20, 1965.

Jon and Karin were married for 49 wonderful years, during which he introduced her to his favorite hobbies of fishing and treasure hunting. They enjoyed fishing with their kids on annual vacations to his sister, Iowana's house, on Lake Eufaula in Oklahoma. Whether vacationing at the lake or treasure hunting in the hills of Oklahoma with his brother, Pat, he always enjoyed spending time with his family. His other favorite family times included reunions held at Lake Eufaula or in Lake Havasu City, Arizona along with watching his daughters play sports whenever possible.

Eventually, Jon was forced to retire in his mid 60s due to debilitating COPD. There were multiple surgeries and scares that he was not going to make it much longer, but he was determined not to give up. None of his health issues prevented him from taking part in some of life's bigger moments later on, like walking both of his daughters down the aisle and welcoming his grandchildren into the world. He loved to watch his grandchildren play sports so much he would do everything in his power to make it to their games even if he had to leave early or right after the final buzzer due to health issues. He especially loved watching them play his all-time favorite sport, baseball.

Never a fair weather fan, he was a die-hard supporter of his Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys even during bad seasons. In his later years, he also enjoyed playing video poker, occasional casino trips with his buddy Quincy, and playing his lotto numbers. He loved listening to his "oldies" music and Jody Dean on 98.7 KLUV even when they over played one of his favorite Beatle's songs. He loved it when they'd play The Eagles' "Take It Easy". In fact, one of his favorite memories was getting to stand on that famous corner in Winslow, Arizona. He also had a true love of history and was always happy to pass on bits of what he learned while watching the History and Discovery channels.

Jon did not want a lot of fuss when it came time for his lord and savior to call him home, so, per his wishes, there will not be a formal funeral service. He would simply say, "Do me a solid," by celebrating his life in your own way and always remembering to live each day to its' fullest as though it were your last, never forgetting to say I love you to those around you. We will be celebrating his life for what would have been his 77th birthday with his favorite dessert, Karin's homemade German chocolate cake. Please contact the family for further information.

In lieu of flowers, Jon and his family would appreciate it if you would donate, in his name, to the charity of your choice.

God Saw You Getting Tired:

God saw that you were getting tired,
A cure was not to be.
So he put his arms around you
and whispered, "Come with me,"

With tearful eyes, we watched you suffer,
and saw you fade away.
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes "the best."

We will love and miss you forever, Jon.
Amen
