Shirley D. Szczebak, age 83, died after a multi-year battle with cancer. She remained active until her last few weeks and was able to greet her first great grandchild before passing. Having grown up on a farm in southern Virginia, Shirley completed her RN residency before focusing on raising a family of three children. She could often be found at school activities or taking her Girl Scout troop on summer camping trips. Shirley remained an avid reader throughout her life and enjoyed traveling after the children were grown and left home. After moving to Plano in the early 1990's, Shirley became active at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church where she was always available to share her time and to help those in need. Over the years she has been involved, she has touched countless lives. She served as an officer of Seton Women and on the North Texas Deanery. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Edward John Szczebak and is survived by her children Ed Szczebak, Kathy North and her husband Rick and Jim Szczebak, grandchildren Jessica Boghetich and her husband Cody and Brianna Szczebak, great grandson Christopher Boghetich and sisters Helen Bugg and Jean Chapman. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 5, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2700 W. Spring Creek Pkwy., Plano, Texas with Father Bruce Bradley, celebrant. A reception will follow at the church and Shirley will be laid to rest at 2:00 PM in the columbarium at Calvary Hill Cemetery in Dallas, Texas next to her beloved husband Ed.
