Edwina (Edy) Troy

May 15, 1937 — November 3, 2014

Edwina "Edy" Frances Burns Troy was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. She was kind, caring, giving and compassionate beyond compare, and went out of her way to help others. Edy was born in 1937 in New York where she grew up and met her husband, Jack. They had four children, Dennis, Kathie, Rick and Rob, and 7 grandchildren, Jacqui, Jim, Taylynn, Gage, Derian, Kyla and Kaiden, to all of whom Edy was very close. Texas became home in 1973, and this is where Edy had the joy of seeing her children marry and watching her grandchildren be born. She was a very active and integral part of all of their lives and they forged very special bonds - the grandchildren called her Nonny, and a day with her, which she always made very special, was known as "Nonny Day". She was a true champion of her children, doing so much to aid their accomplishments and achievements, and an avid supporter of her grandchildren's activities, attending school functions, band concerts, sporting events, and becoming a "hockey grandma", even traveling with the team! Edy also has many "adopted" children and grandchildren, speaking volumes about how she was also loved by her children's and grandchildren's friends. She was known to many as "Mom Troy" or "Big E", and all the grandchildren's friends also called her Nonny, which she loved! She was the rock of her family and her daughter considered her to be her best friend. Edy had many, many good friends through the years, and a small circle of very close friends (Marion, Pat, Brenda and Tedde) with whom she spent much time traveling, enjoying activities and simply giving of her time and herself. By God's grace, along with her family, Brenda and Tedde were able to be with her when she left us. Edy loved musicals and plays, and took the grandchildren to shows every year. She loved to travel, and had been to various countries in Europe, as well as Bermuda, Thailand, the Northern Mariana Islands, and many parts of the United States. One of her favorite places was Disney World and she was a repeat guest! Edy loved gardening and had an amazing green thumb! Her yard was always filled with lovely flowers, especially her favorite rose bushes. In her retirement, she spent her time with her children and grandchildren, traveling with friends, and enjoying activities with the Plano Senior Center. She always put others first and she was loved so much more than she really knew. Her absence leaves a hole in our lives larger than one can imagine, we will cherish our memories with her, and to say she will be missed does not even begin to convey the sense of loss we feel. There will be a Vigil/Visitation at 11:00 AM Friday, November 7, 2014 at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1201 Alma Dr., Plano, Texas 75075. The Mass of The Resurrection will be celebrated at 12:00 noon also at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church. A reception will immediately follow the mass at 1100 W. 15th St., Plano, Texas.
