Jefferson Garrison

December 30, 1929 — November 1, 2014

Jefferson Lee Garrison was born December 30, 1929 in O'Donnel, Texas. He passed away November 1, 2014 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Jeff grew up in Lubbock, Texas with 9 brothers and sisters. He served in the United States Army as a radio specialist in Alaska. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1958 with dual degrees in Park Administration and Horticulture. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Jeff married Laura Jane Read in 1961 after they met on a blind date. He was National Sales Manager for Voluntary Purchasing Groups lawn and garden division for 12 years. He then founded Garrison Gardens Nursery in 1976 and expanded into 4 locations throughout Dallas. He became interested in flowers when he was a young boy and would go out in the fields and transplant the wildflowers into their yard at home. His customers enjoyed his knowledge of plants and his pleasant way of imparting gardening information. He trained his sons in the art and science of gardening and left a legacy of a love of plants, gardening and landscaping. It gave him great pleasure to have his wife and sons as an important part of the business. He also served on the Board of Directors of Richardson National Bank.
Jeff had a natural love of people and delighted in dealing with children. He had a bigger than life personality and enjoyed interfacing with customers and sharing his passion for all types of plants and flowers. His favorite flowers were roses and his yard in Canyon Creek was always the envy of the neighborhood with hundreds of caladiums in the spring.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years Laura Jane Garrison, son David Lee Garrison and his wife Teresa and grandson Beckett of Plano, Texas, son Daniel Brice Garrison and his wife Lisa, grandson Miles and granddaughter Abbey of McKinney, Texas, brothers Miles Garrison of Kearney, Nebraska, Truitt Garrison of Granbury, Texas, Rusty Garrison of Lubbock, Texas and sister Margaret Fears of Sun City, Arizona.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in the Faith Chapel of Prestonwood Baptist Church, 6801 W. Park Boulevard, Plano, Texas 75093.
