Merlon B. Carter was born at home on October 23, 1939. He attended Brownsboro Elementary School and graduated from Brownsboro High School in 1958, where he played basketball and was also a member of the band.
He attended Tyler Junior College from 1958 to 1960 and then attended the University of Texas at Austin where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Merlon earned his Master's Degree at Southern Methodist University in Dallas and following his graduation, he began working at General Dynamics Corporation in Ft. Worth.
Merlon met Carolyn Ann Kemp in 1963 and they were married in 1964. They were fortunate to have celebrated 50 years together on January 25, 2014.
In 1966, Merlon was hired by Texas Instruments and he and Carolyn moved to Richardson, Texas. Following his employment with TI, Merlon worked for Datotek until it was acquired by AT&T. He then went to work for Raytheon Corporation and remained there until his retirement in 2006. In the early 70's Merlon obtained his private pilot's license and he was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Richardson, Texas.
He passed from this life into eternity on October 2, 2014 and is survived by his loving wife Carolyn Carter, son Chris Carter and his wife Sarah and granddaughter Meredith Carter. Merlon was predeceased by his sisters Betty Kessler and Jean Murfin.
The family will receive friends at a visitation on Monday, October 6, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Allen Family Funeral Options. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens, Texas with Reverend Becky Love officiating.
