Murlean Marie Pfiffner was born September 26, 1923 in St Louis, Missouri and passed away surrounded by her children, Sue, Jim and daughter-in-law Rose on June 11, 2014 at the age of 90. She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Vernon Henry Pfiffner and, her parents James Oscar Shoultz and Ona Mae Dare, her sister Helen Collins (Shoultz) and brother Charles Wisdom.
Murlean met her future husband, Vernon, at her mother's confectionery store in South St Louis. They married in 1943 while Vernon was on leave from the US Army. They were married for 67 years until Vernon's death in 2011. Murlean is survived by her two children, Susan Doyle (Larry), and Jim (Rose). She has 5 grandkids she loved to spoil, Michael Pfiffner, Amy Pfiffner Craven (Jimmy), Matthew Pfiffner, Erin Doyle and Kevin Doyle. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, friend and neighbor. She never met a stranger.
Murlean worked as a punch key operator at Missouri Pacific Railroad until 1952 when she had her first child, daughter Sue. She became a full time homemaker and spent her time taking care of her family, which soon included a son, Jim. She had enough time to learn to play golf and she and Vernon became avid golfers. So much so that in 1985 when Vernon retired, they bought a home in a golf community in Port St Lucie, Florida and became "snowbirds" traveling between St Louis and Dallas, Texas to visit their kids and grandkids. She loved taking the grandkids to the beach even though she wouldn't go in the water very far because there were fish in it. And although they lived out of town she never missed a graduation, dance recital or marching band performance. She went to baseball games, soccer games, band concerts, dance concerts and anything else her grandkids wanted her to see. In 2009 Murlean and Vernon moved to Plano, Texas to live with her son Jim and his wife, Rose. In late 2010, Murlean moved to Emeritus at Collin Oaks where Jim, Rose and family kept a close watch over her until her passing.
The family would like to express our deepest appreciation to the staff at Collin Oaks for the care and compassion they had taking care of Murlean. They gave comfort to the family and truly made it a home for her.
A celebration of life will be held Monday, June 16, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Plano, Texas at 10:30 AM. A short visitation will be held prior to the service at 9:30 AM. Burial will be at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery at 2:30 PM.
