Walton H Mayfield

Hal is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Lynn Mayfield, sons Michael and John, daughter
Wendy Evans, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He attended The University of Houston from 1953 to 1959, majoring in Radio/Television Broadcast Management. He worked at the university's radio station as well as KTRK radio and TV station in Houston. Hal moved his family to Dallas in 1960 and was employed at WFAA - TV as a salesman and sales manager and later at WFAA radio as station manager. He was employed in radio and TV for almost twenty years.
Next, he went into commercial real estate for the Henry S. Miller Company, then Grubb and Ellis Company where he was National Director for their Hospitality Division (hotels and resorts). He then joined an Oklahoma company and opened the Dallas office of Hotel Broker One and remained until his retirement.
Hal was a life member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas due to his mothers work researching his descendants on his father's side. Abraham Zuber, his great-great-grandfather was granted one of the early Spanish Land grants in1832 in Grimes County Texas. Abraham's son, William Physick Zuber, was Sam Houston's color bearer in the war at San Jacinto against Santa Anna.
Hal served in the Texas National Guard for 8 years. He had his commercial pilot's license and owned 2 airplanes at one time. He was an advanced open water scuba diver, master's class photographer and at one time a member of the Trans-Am & Sports Car Club of America.
A memorial Service will be held Friday, May 30, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the chapel at Christ Church Plano, 4550 Legacy Drive, Plano Texas, 75024.
