Mary Waugh, age 66, of Plano, Texas died May 9, 2014 due to complications from lymphoma with her family by her side. Mary was born to the late Charles and Florence Sefter on February 15, 1948 in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. She graduated from St. Saviour High School in 1965 and received a B.A. in Mathematics from Marymount Manhattan College in 1969. She married Philip Waugh in 1972 and they lived together in Manalapan, New Jersey until relocating to Plano, Texas in 1989.
Mary had a passion for both teaching and volunteering. After raising three children, she returned to school to earn an M.A. in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Dallas in 1996 and taught Algebra and Geometry at various schools in Dallas and Plano until she retired in 2014. When she was not teaching, she worked with the Stephen Ministry, fostered rescue dogs and most recently volunteered as a Court-Appointed Special Advocate for children. Mary will always be remembered for her strong will, her sense of justice and her concern for others.
Mary is survived by her husband Philip, three children, Mary Swindell of Boyd, Texas, Tara Waugh of Los Angeles, California and Shawn Waugh also of Los Angeles, and one grandchild Nate Swindell.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 23rd at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2700 W. Spring Creek Pkwy., Plano, Texas 75023.
