Josephine Dorsa entered this life on January 13, 1925 born to Sarah Giordano and Onofrio Dorsa at Old St. Paul Hospital in Dallas Texas. Josephine was the fifth of six children; Anthony, Rosie, Mamie, Mary, Josephine and Don. The family lived on Powhatten Street in Dallas and spent much time on Ackard Street, where Onofrio owned a dairy and grocery. Josephine attended St. Patrick's Catholic School and Church. She received her sacraments at St. Patrick's and was confirmed "Cecilia".
The family then moved the grocery store to Denton Drive in Dallas. Working at the grocery store was a big part of Josephine's youth. One day, a loyal customer, Ceil Tafelski introduced Josephine to her brother Albert (George), who was home from World War II visiting his sister. Josephine and George began to date and in July of 1945 were married at Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
Together, they had six children; four boys and two girls named Albert Jr. (Laura) now deceased, Cissy(Agnes) Butler (Frank), Joe Tafelski (Beverly), Tony Tafelski, Mary Anne Tafelski (Sergio Rocha) and Don Tafelski (Theresa). George was a talented stone mason and Josephine a home maker and gardener. George and Josephine were devoted grandparents to ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. The grandchildren include Frank Butler, Jr. ( Christie), Jennifer Richards (Troy) Dawn Marie Becker (Tony) Ryan Tafelski, Marquin Tafelski, Zach Tafelski, Claire Tafelski, Fabian Rocha, Bre Tafelski and Matthew Rocha. The great grandchildren are Daniel Cox, Natalie Butler, Lauren Richards, Andrew Butler, Luke Richards, Laine Richards and Nyah Jane Becker. Josephine loved family gatherings, cooking for her family, playing cards, bingo and the occasional casino visit (where she often won). She enjoyed watching and cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, the Texas Longhorns and anything her grandchildren participated in.
Josephine's devotion to her faith and family was unwavering. We are blessed to have had 89 fun-filled years with our mom and mema. The family will receive friends at a visitation on Monday, April 21, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Allen Family Funeral Options. The rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2700 W. Spring Creek Pkwy., Plano, Texas 75023 with The Reverend Monsignor Leon Deusman and Father Loyd Morris as co-celebrants. Interment will be at Calvary Hill Cemetery in Dallas.
