Mr. Alan DeVoy Lecklitner, 78, of Plano, Texas passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014 due to complications from a fall and declining health from Alzheimer's disease. He was born in Canton, Ohio on January 21, 1936 as the eldest son to Dr. Myron and Margaret Lecklitner. Alan grew up in various states such as Ohio, Minnesota, Arkansas and Missouri due to his father's career as a Veteran's Affairs doctor. He graduated from Southwest High School in Kansas City, Missouri in 1953; enjoying Army ROTC and playing drums in a band. He received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Kansas in 1957. He married Suzanne Dell Hart, an officer in the Army as well, on February 14, 1966 in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He served in the United States Army for 24 years. His military career included tours in Korea, Dominican Republic, Germany and Italy and he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel at Fort Hood, Texas. His retirement careers' included USPA & IRA, EDS and Elliott's Hardware, all in the Plano, Texas area. He enjoyed his final years at Sunrise of Plano Senior Living. Alan was proud to be a Vietnam veteran. His pride was evident with his vast knowledge of uniform accuracy in period military movies. He loved model railroading, coin and stamp collecting, James Bond movies and Texas barbeque. He was handy with tools and his children were happy to accept his help with many school projects from the multi-level hinged Egyptian pyramid to the volcano with life-like vegetation...to scale of course.
Alan is survived by his 3 children, Heidi Lecklitner-Halvorson of Panama City, Florida, Scott Lecklitner and daughter-in-law Michelle of Prosper, Texas and Julie Lecklitner of Dallas, Texas. Alan was the proud grandfather of 4 grandchildren, Wyatt Halvorson, Madeline Halvorson, Blake Lecklitner and Allison Lecklitner. He was preceded in death by Suzanne Lecklitner, his devoted wife of 42 years, in 2008, as well as his sister, Hansi Knox, and brother, Lynn Lecklitner.
A graveside service with family and friends will be held on March 26th at 11:30 a.m. at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Following the service, Alan will finally rest side by side with his wife, Suzanne, in their columbarium. The family requests that memorials be made in Alan's name to the Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org/jointhecausedonate.asp or the SPCA, www.spca.org/waystogive .
