Max Walton Cook, P.E. passed away on March 2, 2014. He was born in Wilmington, North Carolina on October 4, 1933 to Hugh H. Cook and Anna Appelberg Cook. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Kathleen Williamson Cook, daughters Hope and husband David Basinger of Colorado, Maxine and husband Mike Pelkey of Texas, four granddaughters Janette and Erin Basinger of Colorado, Erica White and Megan Sims of Texas, four great grandchildren Mendy, Spencer, Della and Jackson of Texas, sister-in-law Polly Cook of Georgia, nephew Hugh Cook, wife and children of Florida, niece Hilary, husband and children of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dr Hugh H. Cook. Mr. Cook attended Wilmington College after New Hanover High School and then went to North Carolina State for a year before being drafted into the military seeing Camp Gordon, Georgia, Camp Chaffee, Alaska, Ft. Sill, Oklahoma and Japan. Max graduated from The University of Oklahoma as an Electrical Engineer in 1963, and started work at Texas lnstruments. He traveled to many places for TI and several years after joining Texas Instruments, Max received his license as a "Professional Engineer". After leaving TI, he went with several personal security companies, these being J.H. Thompson in Dallas and Houston, Network Security, who bought J.H. and then he went with Moose Products in Hickory, North Carolina and when it was bought out, he came back to Texas to work at Weber Aircraft in Gainesville. Afterward, he joined a personal security company in Dallas and stayed there through a few ownership changes. While there, Max served as Vice President of Engineering, fulfilling many security contracts in Dallas and other areas. Mr. Cook also belonged to ASIS, an engineering fraternity.
Wherever Mr. Cook was he would work in his church as a Lay Eucharistic Minister, served at the altar, as a reader and took communion to shut-ins. He was on the Vestry of most church's he attended; St. Andrews in Farmers Branch, Ascension in Houston and Ascension in Hickory, North Carolina. Max along with his wife Kathleen were church small group leaders in Houston, Hickory and at Christ Church Plano. As a young boy in Wilmington, he attended St. John's Episcopal Church and was an Acolyte for many years. He received Sunday School pins for 16 years of never missing a Sunday. He was a member of the youth group at St. John's in Wilmington and at St. Andrews in Farmers Branch. He and his wife were leaders of the youth group. As a boy, he was in Boy Scouts and obtained the rank of "Silver Award".
A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Christ Church Plano,4550 Legacy Drive, Plano, Texas 7 5024 on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m.
