Gerald R Hooker

August 25, 1937 — February 6, 2014

Gerald R. Hooker, 76, peacefully went to be home with the Lord on Thursday, February 6, 2014 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's simultaneously.
He was born on August 25, 1937 in Plant City, Florida. to Jack and Lennie Hooker. He showed cattle as a boy and loved playing basketball. He graduated from Plant City High School in 1955 and went to college at Florida Southern. He married Kay Harrell in 1958, who later died of cancer. They had two children, Sharon and Jax and lived in Plant City, where he ran his family owned department store. He became mayor, served on the city commission, Lions Club and many other civic efforts. Gerald was a Florida Gator fan until the very end.
Gerald married Jeannette Reppert of Dallas, Texas in 1980. They lived in Plant City for 15 years and he was active in Fellowship of Companies for Christ and real estate before moving back to Plano, Texas to retire.
He has been very active with Prestonwood Baptist Church since 1994, in Bible study fellowship, being a deacon and going on mission trips to Romania and many South American countries. He was also involved with raising scholarship funds for Kanakuk Camps through long distance bicycle rides. He also attended many Bill Glass Prison Fellowship crusades to share Jesus with inmates. He enjoyed playing tennis and cycling.
Gerald is survived by his faithful wife, Jeannette Hooker of Plano, his two children Sharon Bridges and Jax Hooker in Florida and his grandchildren, Trey Bridges, Alec Bridges, Alixandra Hooker and Jacey Anne Hooker. His surviving step children are Matt Reppert in Austria, Mike Reppert in Dallas, Julia Henning in New Jersey and Todd Reppert in Houston; and his grandchildren Jenny Johnson, Travis Henning, Kyle Reppert, Mick Torre, Heather DeGraffenreid, Cody Reppert, Tyler Henning, Andrew Reppert, Kendall Reppert, Courtney Reppert, and Niki; and great grandchild Caden.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 17, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the chapel at Prestonwood Baptist Church, 6801 W. Park Boulevard, Plano, Texas 75093.
