Joseph Schwarz

April 14, 1930 — February 8, 2014

Joseph Alfred Schwarz, also known as Joey, Daddy-O, Grandpa Joe, Joe Cool and Poppies passed away February 8, 2014 at Presbyterian Village North with his family by his side. Joe is survived by his wife Sherry Cousins Schwarz, daughters Karen Neat of Allen, Krissy Whittington of Temple, son Karl Schwarz of Dallas, Christopher Wolbrink and Heather McMeekin of Dallas. Grand children are Jason Neat, Lenna Arango, David Neat, Lauren Neat, Ryan Tanneberger, Rebecca, Hannah, Sarah and Leah Schwarz, Ryan McMeekin, and four great grandchildren, Sophia, Julian, Cristian and Selma. Born to Catherine and Alfred Schwarz April 14, 1930 in Hutchinson, Kansas, Joe was the eldest of six children. He was predeceased by his brother Robert and his parents. His surviving siblings are three sisters Betty McCamant of Hutchinson, Mary Lou Koch of Hillside, Colorado, and Dorothy Haines of Wichita, and a brother Paul Schwarz of Andover, Kansas. Also surviving is his former wife Norma of Dallas, Texas. In his early elementary years Joe met eight boys and they called themselves "the Jolly Boys". The JB' s have remained friends all through the years. The three surviving members of the nine are Charlie Beinscheidt of Kansas, Mick Maguire of Michigan and Bob Hettinger of New York. Joe was a member of the Kansas National Guard and was activated in 1950 to serve during the Korean conflict. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Joe attended Kansas University and graduated from the school of accounting in May 1954. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Two days after graduation, Joe went to work for National Cash Register (NCR) where he enjoyed a stellar career and retired in 1994. In his retirement, he enjoyed volunteering for his church and traveling the world with his wife and family attending every jazz festival he could find! At the age of 80, Joey retired his tennis raquet after passing along the love for the game to family and friends. Even though he will be sorely missed we know he is at peace with his Lord.
The family would like to thank the staff of Presbyterian Village North and Faith Presbyterian Hospice for the loving care they gave to Joey.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Dallas, 1835 Young St, Dallas, TX. 75201, on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 3:00 PM.
