Alice Marie Watson

January 11, 1928 — January 25, 2014

Alice Marie (Mickel) Watson left this earth to be with Our Heavenly Father on January 25, 2014. Mom was born as the fifth of six living children to Joseph and Janet (Schmitt) Mickel in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Her father was the Chief Engineering Draftsman for Goodyear in Akron, Ohio. Joseph worked with German Scientist on the Rigid Airships, known as the "Hindenburg class." He continued his work in partnership with the German company Zeppelin in the design of the first Goodyear-Zeppelin GZ-1, the USS Akron (ZRS-4). Additionally, his team designed the world's largest, non-internally supported structures in Lakehurst, New Jersey and Akron, Ohio. These structures are so large that it can cloud up and rain inside the hangars.

Mom earned the title of "Marine Wife" in 1950 when she married SSgt. William Russell Watson from Canton, Ohio. They married on December 4, 1950 in Camp LeJune, North Carolina. Together, they raised five Marine "Cadets". William Joseph Watson Sr. is the oldest, followed by Gary Mark Watson, James Richard Watson, Catherine Marie Watson - Kuntz and John Patrick Watson. We knew the Words to the Marine Corps Hymn almost as soon as we could talk. The boys learned to spit-shine shoes and stand inspection at a very early age. We slept in Marine bunks with USMC blankets until around 1970.

The family spent the early years living in every state in the southeast part of the country with most of the time spent in Charlotte, North Carolina, Atlanta, Georgia, Louisville, Kentucky and Birmingham, Alabama. While Mom & Dad continued to travel, the members of the younger Watson Clan have made Dallas their home since 1972. At last they settled in Pilot Point, Texas and Mom was an active part of the Red Hat Society. They were known as "Curvaceous Hattitudes of Pilot Point"!

Mom and Dad went to Saudi Arabia for five years. During this time, they traveled around the world three times. They would Christmas in Germany and spent some time in the Watson native land of Scotland and Ireland. They toured the Blarney Castle, near Cork, where Dad hung up side down to kiss "The Blarney Stone". Some of Mom's favorite stories are when she road a camel around the Pyramids in Egypt as well as when she took an airplane ride with Gary when he was first learning to fly. Her most fond memory is walking in the steps of Jesus in Israel.

Mom was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister, Dad and their oldest granddaughter, Melissa. Mom enjoyed her 16 grandchildren (Earning the titles of "Air Force and Marine Grandmother"), numerous great grand children and two great, great grandchildren. During her last birthday a couple of weeks ago, Mom reflected that she had a rich, full life and had no regrets and left nothing undone. What a life, what a wonderful Mom!
