Gayle Comerford Cryer went home to be with Jesus and to be reunited with her beloved husband Jim on January 18, 2014. Funeral services will be held at Prestonwood Baptist Church at 6801 West Park Boulevard in Plano, Texas 75093, on Thursday, January 23rd at 11:00am with a graveside service at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at 2:15pm. Gayle was the only child born to Clauselle & Thomas Comerford in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on April 29, 1936. She was raised Catholic and attended a Catholic elementary school before her family moved to Beaumont, Texas, where she graduated from Beaumont High in 1954. She attended LSU and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She met the love of her life and husband, James (Jim) Cryer at Gulf States Utilities where they both worked. Gayle loved family, was a devoted wife and mother, and could trace her family history back to Josiah Gayle who fought in the Revolutionary War in 1775. Gayle was a people person and loved to laugh. She was known for making life long friends wherever she went. Generous and caring, she believed everyone had value and was worth her time. Gayle had the opportunity to be a stay-at-home mom while her children were young and then went back into the workforce when they were older, working for Citicorp, U.S. Census & WKG-TV in Baton Rouge. She and Jim moved to McKinney, Texas, in 2006 where they both joined Citizens on Patrol, the McKinney volunteer police association. Her love and devotion for Jim were evident to all who knew her. Married for 54 years, Jim was truly her other half and she was lost without him after his death on August 19, 2013.
She is survived by her two children, John Cryer of Orlando, Florida, and Mary Brogdon of Plano, Texas, as well as her granddaughters Elizabeth & Gabrielle Brogdon. Gayle especially loved animals and left behind her beloved companion Pauli, a female German Shepherd. In honor of her love for animals, memorial gifts may be sent to The Humane Society of the United States, 2100 L Street, NW, Washington, DC 20037 or www.humanesociety.org or to your local Humane Society.
