Rebekah Elise Yarbrough was born on July 23, 1990 in Tyler, Texas. She attended Good Shepherd School from preschool through 8th grade. In 2004, she moved to Plano, Texas with her mother and attended Legacy Christian Academy (LCA) to complete her classical education. She graduated in November 2007. She attended LeTourneau University in Longview and the Le Cordon Bleu College in Dallas. Rebekah ultimately found her calling as a dental assistant in 2011 and began course work towards entering the Dental Hygiene Program at Collin College.
Rebekah gave birth to her only child, Cayden Adair Yarbrough, on September 9, 2011 at Centennial Hospital in Frisco, Texas. She has been raising her son with his father Al Babkoff. Rebekah is a member of Christ Church Plano, but she and her family have been helping their friend and pastor Jonathan Hunnicutt establish The Table, a new church plant in Oak Cliff.
As a young child, Rebekah was fearless and full of joy. She enjoyed dance lessons and sports. She played basketball, volleyball, softball and golf at LCA. Her sense of humor kept her friends laughing. Her mother had the joy of teaching her in preschool, 5th grade and in Yearbook her junior year at LCA. Rebekah was extremely smart and had a profound understanding of theology and the Bible. She worked with children as a nanny, which provided her the opportunity to raise her son as well. She was committed to teaching her son and gave him a strong foundation in faith, self-control and manners, as is evident in the two-year-old's many "yes ma'ams."
Rebekah's inner strength carried her through many difficult times in her life. She struggled, as she put it, "to get her Bible knowledge to make that 18-inch trip from her head to her heart," but she ultimately came to know the personal fellowship of her Lord as she and Al and Cayden worked to strengthen their family. She has run through fire and looked forward to a time when she could mentor young girls and pass on the wisdom she gained from the process.
The promise of her life was destroyed on November 25, 2013 when she suffered fatal head injuries from a car crash on her way home. The girl who ran through fire passed on to the glory she sought at 2:52 a.m. on November 26, 2013 surrounded by her family and her pastor Jonathan. She is survived by her two-year-old son Cayden Adair Yarbrough, her mother Barbi McSwain, her father Clif Yarbrough and grandparents Weynoka Yarbrough and Jim Yarbrough, her sister Rochelle Rodriguez, her niece and nephew Chloe and Max Tousley, twin sisters Emily and Elizabeth Yarbrough, her aunts Charlotte Low, Lorraine McSwain, and Debbi McSwain, her uncle Joe Gibson, her cousins Gary, Chris, and Tracy Low, Misha and Sean McSwain and Austin, Tammy, and Dakota Gibson, as well as second cousins. She is also survived by her "true love and baby daddy," Al Babkoff.
Rebekah's life will be celebrated at a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Hunters Glen Baptist Church, 4001 Custer Rd., Plano, Texas 75023. A reception will follow at the church.
