Tommye Karlene Bartscht

July 18, 1934 — November 11, 2013

Tommye Karlene Bartscht was born on July 18, 1934 in Commerce, Texas. She was the first born child of Coalie Thomas and Alfreda Rose Busby. Tommye was a dreamer and as a child she would often dress up as her favorite movie stars. She also loved music and learned to play the piano at an early age. By the time she was 15, she was serving as the pianist at her church. Tommye graduated from Commerce High School in 1952 and went to work for American Airlines as a flight attendant. She later became a customer service agent for vacation travel with American. Tommye travelled extensively throughout the United States, Mexico and Europe. In the late 1950's, Tommye was a staffer for the late Senator Dodd. In 1959, she married Warren Bartscht. Tommye loved the outdoors, flowers and gardening. She lived most of her later adult years in north Dallas. She was a long time member of Highland Park United Methodist Church. Tommye passed from this life into eternity on November 11, 2013. She is survived by her daughter Kelly Bartscht, grandson Joshua Bartscht, sisters Barbara Ray and Marjorie Sanders and her husband Mac, niece and nephews Latressa Melton, Hal Ray, Ronald Ritchey, Russell Ritchey, 4 great nieces and 1 great nephew. The family will receive friends at a visitation on Thursday, November 14, 2013 from 6-8 pm at Allen Family Funeral Options. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 15, 2013 at 10:00 am also at Allen Family Funeral Options. Interment will follow at 2:00 pm at Horton Cemetery in Commerce, Texas. The family requests if desired, memorials be made to SPCA, www.spca.org or to the American Heart Association, www.heart.org.
