James T. (Tom) Latimer was born in Leonard, Texas in 1933 and graduated as Valedictorian, Class President and Captain of the Football team from Leonard High School at age 16. He attended East Texas State Teachers College, graduated at age 20 and then entered the United States Air Force. He married Thelma Norwood on Christmas Day, 1953. Tom later attended the University of Oklahoma and earned his Masters of Business Administration in 1967. He was honorably retired from the U. S. Air Force in 1973.
Following his retirement, Tom was a stock-broker with Merrill Lynch, a Financial Recruiter for Southern Methodist University and later a Real Estate agent in Plano, Texas.
His greatest pleasure was spending time with his grandchildren.
Tom is survived by his wife Thelma Faye (Norwood) Latimer, daughters Mary Bronson and her husband Bill, Pam Gurney and her husband Randy, son Tommy Latimer and his wife Stacie, sister Texanna Norman and her husband Jack, brother Bob Latimer and his wife Jean, grandchildren Dan Bronson, Elizabeth Bronson, Austin Bronson, Tyler Bronson, Randall Gurney, Douglas Gurney, Tommy Latimer, Erica Johnson and Sydney Grace Latimer. Tom was preceded in death by his parents Sherman and Frances Latimer.
Tom was laid to rest on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at 11:15 AM at the Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery with full military honors.
A memorial follwed at 2:30 PM at Hunters Glen Baptist Church, 4001 Custer Rd., Plano, Texas 75023. Pastor David Norman, a nephew, officiated.
