Kenneth Ricky Pettis was born on June 6, 1946 to parents Vernon and June Pettis in Abilene, Texas. He married the love of his life, Marcia Ann Moi on June 3, 1967 and the two just celebrated 46 years as husband and wife.
Marcia remained Rick's rock throughout their marriage and he treasured her immensely.
Professionally, Rick was a homebuilder and participated in his family's oil business. He also proudly served our country as a member of the United States Marine Corp. Although he appeared tough on the outside, Rick was the kindest, softest, loving and most sensitive person you could meet.
Rick loved to play golf and had a passion for fast cars but found his real joy in spending time with family and his close friends. He was the type of person who would do anything for you and was extremely dedicated to those that he loved. Every time he would leave the house or hang up from a phone call, he made it a habit of saying, "I love you" to those closest to him. Rick coached little league football and baseball during most of his son Michael's childhood. He was a favorite among many of the boys involved in youth sports in Midland.
Rick absolutely adored his Grandkids. He spoiled them rotten and did so quite often. Christmas was his favorite time of the year and he went to great lengths to make it special for his family. Rick had a great laugh and it was brought out often by his three Grandkids. Playing tricks on Granddad was pretty common around the Pettis house and he was skilled at messing with and teasing back at them as well.
Rick left this life much too soon and will be remembered fondly and missed by all those who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife Marcia, son Michael Pettis and his wife Nikki, grandchildren Cole, Regan and Case, brother in laws Steve, John and Garry, sister in laws Joanie, Cindy and Lynn, cousins MaryAnn Brahaney, Caroline Brahaney and Tom Brahaney and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Rick is preceded in death by parents Vernon and June Pettis and his sister Judy Pettis.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, 6400 Stonebrook Parkway, Frisco, Texas 75034 with the Reverend David Krause officiating. Rick will be laid to rest in Prosper, Texas.
