Michael Charles Zook was born October 12, 1948 in Des Moines, Iowa to parents Robert Charles Zook and Peggy Jane Waggoner Zook. He passed away on January 11, 2009 in Plano, Texas with his loving wife by his side. Miachael attended elementary through high school in Des Moines and went on to graduate with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Drake University also in Des Moines. While growing up he was active at Grace Methodist Church and involved in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Little League and Senior League Baseball. Michael served in the United States Army in VIet Nam and took great pride in his work for over 30 years at USACE living in various locations around the world. He worked for HQUSARE in Heidelberg, Germany and that is where he married the love of his life, Melisande Stephans Zook on September 24, 1997. The highlight of his life occurred on August 29, 1999 the day his son William Zook was born in Portland, Oregon. Michael loved the time he spent with his family and especially enjoyed the overnight campouts he had as the Den Leader for William's Cub Scout Troop. Some of his interests included reading, traveling and swimming with William. He also enjoyed NASCAR, football, playing poker and anything to do with cars! He really loved his dog ANdy. Michael and his family moved to Plano, Texas in December 2003 and most recently he was the Chief of Real Estate in the South West Division, USACE. He will be remembered for meeting all of his challenges head on, especially his last. Michael is survived by wife Melisande, son William, parents Robert and Peggy Zook of Winter Have, Florida, mother-in-law Iris Steger of Houston, Texas, relatives of the family, George & Lynn Rollins, Eula McDuffie and many aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 3:00p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2009 at Reflections on Spring Creek, 19011 F Spring Creek Pkwy, Plano, Texas 75074. A reception will follow the service. If desired, family suggests donations be made in Michael's memory to The Carcinoid Cancer Foundation (CCF), 333 Mamaroneck Ave., #492, WHite Plains, N.Y. 10605.
