Karen Ann Hecht

April 1, 1947 — June 3, 2013

Karen is loved by her husband of 43 years. They married after just 6 months of courtship in their hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1969. As a young woman, she had various jobs in retail before moving to Davenport, Iowa and becoming a dental assistant. She was a devoted mother to James & David who were born in Davenport. After returning to the Milwaukee area in 1976, she opened a retail resale store in Grafton, Wi.

Her real passion was nurturing children. And for about 20 years she operated a home care business, developing many friendships and 'adopted' grandchildren.
After moving to Texas in 1989, she continued childcare in her home and also a day care center, before joining the Plano ISD where she retired as a cook.
Most recently she enjoyed working in childcare at Grace Methodist, until the fall of last year.
What brought the most pleasure to Karen was being active in the lives of her grandchildren. She shared a special bond with each of them.
Throughout her life, Karen made the time to help others, either directly or through volunteer work. Most recently she was a Client Advocate for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Karen made friends easily and leaves them with individual treasured memories. God blessed her with many wonderful qualities. She was selfless, compassionate and generous in her relationships. She very much enjoyed the comradery of the Empty Nesters, S.V.d.P. , Grace Methodist and her church family at St. Francis of Assisi.
Since 2008 she has been fighting breast cancer which had spread. She carried that cross without complaint. She continued to do what she could, always with a smile. Her Oncologist expressed that what she learned from Karen will help in treating other patients. She said Karen made some very positive contributions by participating in various studies.

Karen enjoyed travel, particularly cruising and being a meticulous homemaker. She took pride in her gardening.
Karen was authentic, and a true Christian. She lived her Catholic faith daily. She was at peace with the Lord, and I can only imagine she has now heard His words, 'welcome My faithful servant, come enter the joy of my Fathers house'.

Karen is survived by her loving husband Gary Hecht, her son James Hecht and his wife Kimberly, son David Hecht, grandchildren Abby, Sam, Nick, Gavin and Raina Hecht, sister Debbie Lemke (Callahan) and her husband Dave, brothers Mike Callahan and his wife Louise, Steve Callahan and his wife Kadee, grandmother-in-law Carola Hecht, sister and brother-in-laws Pat and Jim Alario, Sue and Ken Klein, Mary Beth and Dan Hecht, Heidi and Rick Hecht, Robert Hecht, Dawn and Jim Hecht and Mary Lynn and Tom Bachman, uncle Robert Wallace, many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.

The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi, 8000 El Dorado Parkway, Frisco, Texas 75033

There will also be a memorial in New Berlin, Wisconsin on June 26, 2013 at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 16000 National Avenue with a visitation at 4:00 PM with a Mass to follow.
