Jim Mortensen was born in Ventura, California in December, 1942. He grew up in Concord, California. Jim attended North Idaho College before joining the U.S. Air Force in 1966. Jim was a Vietnam veteran, stationed at Da Nang. He completed his tour at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, where he met his future wife, Ann. They married in 1969, the same year that Jim began his 33 year career with IBM. Jim's work with IBM took him and his family from San Francisco to Houston to Dallas to Raleigh, North Carolina. He retired from IBM in Frisco, Texas. Jim was known by many for his love for and dedication to his family, his quick wit and sense of humor, the twinkle in his eye, and his kind and generous spirit. He enjoyed The Rifleman, The Twilight Zone, Andy Griffith, Yule log, The Travels of Jaimie McPheeters, fireplaces, Rocky Road candy bars, having a schedule, German shepherds and knowing where his family was. He did not enjoy anything that got in the way of any of those things, or onions. Jim was survived by his wife Ann Mortensen, children Patrick Mortensen and his wife Megan and Amy Chalfant and her husband John, grandchildren Sam, Max and Ben Mortensen and Ella and Jonah Chalfant, siblings Pat Romak and her husband Bud, Bill Mortensen and his wife Sharon, Bonnie McCord and her husband Bob, sister-in-law Sue Harvey and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral service for Jim Mortensen will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 2:30 PM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2700 W Spring Creek Pkwy, Plano, TX. There will be a reception to follow the service at the church. Jim will be laid to rest at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
