Pat Summerall

May 10, 1930 — April 16, 2013

Pat Summerall, the man known as the voice of the National Football League, the voice of golf and the Masters, a former NFL great and most importantly, a committed Christian, went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 16, 2013. Pat was born May 10, 1930, in Lake City, Florida.
Although born with a congenital problem with his right leg, he went on to play college football at the University of Arkansas, and spent a decade in the National Football League with the Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears and New York Giants. In 1958, he kicked a 49 yard field goal for the Giants in a driving snowstorm at Yankee Stadium to clinch the victory in a game that is a wonderful memory to football fans everywhere.
Pat spent over four decades broadcasting football, golf and tennis, as well as other sports, for CBS and FOX. His television and radio career is legendary.
Pat, a committed Christian and recovering alcoholic, years later wrote in his book, Summerall: On and Off the Air: "My thirst for alcohol was replaced by a thirst for knowledge about faith and God. I began reading the Bible regularly at the Betty Ford treatment center, and it became a part of my daily life."
Pat was baptized at First Baptist Church in Euless, Texas, and was a longtime member of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas.
Pat is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Cheri Summerall; three children, Susan Wiles and husband, Lanny; Jay Summerall and wife, Kathy; Kyle Summerall and wife, Dana; and ten loving grandchildren, Katharine Wiles Luebker and husband, Garrett; Caroline Wiles; Mary Beth Summerall; Patrick Summerall; Ann Summerall; William Summerall; Charlotte Summerall; Emily Summerall; Sarah Rose Summerall; Marian Summerall; and a host of other loving family and friends.
Those who knew and loved him will never forget him.
