Dana Timothy Durrence

November 21, 1966 — March 31, 2013

Dana Timothy Durrence was born November 21, 1966 in Savannah, Georgia to parents Fern Henry and Lillie Mae Durrence. He passed from this life much too soon on March 31, 2013.
Dana is survived by his loving wife and best friend Sherry, children Christina Parker - Gilbert and husband Christopher, Brian Durrence, Tori Durrence, brother George (Terry) Durrence and wife Gladys and nephews Brian, Joel, Kenny and Joseph. Dana was also a great son-in-law and loved his entire family. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Rommy Durrence.
He graduated with a double major in biology and chemistry from Armstrong Atlantic State University.
Dana was a self proclaimed nerd and loved Chemistry. He taught honors chemistry at three separate high schools in Plano and was one of the most well loved and respected teachers wherever he was.
He found potential in every student and loved and remembered every student and person he ever met. Dana collected pencils and school supplies and enjoyed reading novels and comics (his nerd in him).
Dana touched countless lives both in and out of school. He enjoyed laughter and had a great sense of humor. Dana's spiritual life was important as he enjoyed sharing the gospel, was a teacher at church and was fully involved in church and scouting programs.
He coached more pee wee sports teams than can be named including a basketball team that never won a game. Yet he was still very proud.
Dana's family was his cornerstone. He loved Sherry more than life itself and made sure that everyone knew it!
He supported his son through infantry school and the police academy as he followed Dana into police work.
Dana served as a police officer in Georgia and worked on countless special units including being one of the first officers on CNT, working on the major case unit there and was an extremely talented marksman.
He worked hard at everything he did including being a father and husband. He was at every single gymnastics meet to work and support everyone and worked hard to support his youngest daughter through college.
He loved to see his family succeed and would go above and beyond to help anyone achieve their goals.
The family will receive friends at a visitation on Thursday, April 4, 2013 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Allen Family Funeral Options. There will be an additional visitation at 10:00 AM with a funeral service being held Friday, April 5, 2013 at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2700 Round Rock Trail, Plano, Texas 75075.
Dana will be laid to rest in his home state of Georgia. The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to Tori Durrence College Fund, 1001 Park Blvd #152 Plano, Texas 75075.
