Florence Canon

September 24, 1920 — February 17, 2013

Florence Mary Driscoll Canon passed into eternal rest on the morning of Sunday, February 17th, 2013, surrounded by family. She was the steadfast center of so many hearts. Florence grew up in Jersey City, NJ, where she was born on September 24th, 1920, third of the six children of Terence and Jane Lynch Driscoll, and eventually raised her own four children in Roselle, NJ. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Andrew Joseph Canon, her daughter Eileen Dowd, son Andrew "Jack" Canon, and daughter-in-law Rose Canon as well as her siblings Donald Driscoll, Terence Driscoll, Mary Sweeney, Jane Mortola and Grace Lynch. Florence is survived by her daughter Carol Borowicz and her husband Bill, her son Bob Canon, as well as nine grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and many devoted nieces and nephews. Family loyalty was one of her defining characteristics, and pride in her Irish heritage was part of almost every significant family gathering. Florence was a devout Catholic who served as a Eucharistic minister for almost 15 years. Throughout her life, she kept constant correspondence by letter and by phone with dear friends and beloved family, ever a pillar of support. Dignified, humble, faithful, and affectionate, this original "Jersey girl" will be sorely missed by all. Visitation will be held from 4 - 8 pm, Friday, February 22 at Sullivan's Funeral Home in Roselle, NJ. A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph's Church in Roselle on Saturday at 10 am. Interment will follow at St. Gertrude's Cemetery in Colonia, NJ.
