Stephen Matthew Wernsing

Stephen Matthew Wernsing of Plano, Texas passed away on January 2, 2013.
Steve was born in Marion, IN on August 1st, 1942. He graduated from Bennett Catholic High School in Marion, IN and continued on to receive his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa.
Steve married Penny in 1966 in Glen Ellyn, IL. They were happily married for 46 years. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
He began his career in Marion, IN as a high school basketball coach and teacher at Bennett Catholic High School. Then, in 1968 he moved to Plano, TX where he spent the next 40 years as a regional sales representative in the floor covering industry.
Steve was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Plano, TX and was an active volunteer in the Seton's Men's Club and usher ministry.
Steve was an avid follower of college football; his 2 favorites being Notre Dame and Texas A&M. On Friday nights in the fall, you could always find him watching the Plano Wildcats and Plano East Panthers. And on other Friday nights, you could find him enjoying dinner with his "Friday night group". He was also active in coaching youth basketball and baseball in the Plano Sports Association. And he was an avid fan of Indy 500 racing.
Steve is survived by his spouse Penny of Plano, TX, daughter Kim (Gary) Reichmuth of Plano, TX, daughter Karen (Jay) Jones of Port Aransas, TX, sister Mary Joanne Kelley of Indianapolis, IN, grandchildren Kyle, Colby, Cade and Callie and his loving brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives.
The funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 7, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2700 W. Spring Creek Pkwy Plano, TX 75023. A reception will follow.
The family wishes to thank Silverado Senior Living for their loving and compassionate care of Steve. Their support of Steve and his family helped us understand the way to deal with adversity is through dignity, love, and a sense of humor.
