Our Stories of Steve Dick-Husband, Father and Friend
My Husband - By Mary Ellen Dick
Steve came into my life in the year 1981. I met this amazing man on a country and western dance floor called "Cowboys" in Wichita Falls, Texas. We had some great spins around the floor that led to our wedding November 20, 1982. A mere 20 years old he swept me off of my feet and gave me 30 wonderful years together. Our first son, Casey, was born June 27, 1986 and then Nathan popped into our lives August 26, 1988. Our boys were two amazing joys in our lives. Parenthood trails and victories blew our lives into a whirlwind of journeys. Through the triumphant and sorrows we built a life full of love. God and family became our center point. Steve gave us all we needed to keep ourselves focused as a family. His love taught us all how to cherish each and every moment we shared together. He was a man full of strength, love, honor and commitment. Thirty years was not long enough but my heart will cherish him for eternity, so life will be full of him on a daily basis. Steve left my living life on September 13, 2012. I will miss him as a husband, friend and father. This is a quote he shared with his boys so I leave you with a thought from him, "It is better to shoot for a star and miss rather than shoot for a stump an hit it!"
My Dad - By Casey Dick
My dad was a man of great strength and character. He never let anyone know if something was wrong or bothering him because he didn't want my brother or I to find out. That was a great characteristic but also a miner flaw. You see my dad could always tell if something was bothering me and he would always ask, "Son are you ok?" and I'd reply, " Yes." Then he would say, "You might as well tell me son." My dad was a dad who never wanted to miss an event in either one of his son's lives. I think I can count on one hand how many times my dad was unable to attend our events. My dad was a dad who was involved with everything we did throughout our lives. He taught my brother and I respect dignity and that hard work will pay off. My dad was a dad who taught us to love the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and life in general. He taught us the difference between right and wrong and watched us grow into young men. My dad was a great dad who loved my mom and put his family first. He loved family dinners, outings and vacations; but most of all he loved sports. He always pushed us to excel in everything especially school, work and trust in the Lord. My dad was a dad who watched my brother and I grow up and we had an unbelievable time with so many memories. My dad was an awesome dad. Love you dad.

Papa Dick - By Nathan Dick

Papa Dick was a great father, husband and friend. He did everything he could for Casey and me. There wasn't a day that went by that he didn't show up for our practices/games in all sporting events as we were growing up. I'm where I'm at today because of the way my dad and mom raised me. I give all the credit to them, and I cherish every moment I shared with him. If there was anything I needed Papa Dick did everything in his will to get it to me. He has touched my life in a special way that only a great father could and hopefully one day I can pass those qualities along to my children. There won't be a single day that goes by that he's not in my daily thoughts and prayers. If we weren't busy with sports on the weekend there was a good chance Papa Dick was taking us fishing or hunting. He knew I was going to be hooked on fishing ever since the day in Colorado when I was a little boy in pull-ups. He let me sit out on the riverbank casting nothing but a bobber out in the river and watching it all day. He is already greatly missed by his family and all of his friends. He has made a huge impact in my life and it's something that I will never forget. I can't wait for the day that Papa Dick and I get to reunite in Heaven so we can head out on another fishing trip.
