Gloria Carr Hartz died peacefully in Plano, Texas, in the company of family, on August 24, 2012.
Gloria was born near Pittsburgh, PA, on August 1, 1925, the daughter of Walter Carr and Sarah Geier, and the sister of Mary Musmanno. She was raised and educated in the Pittsburgh area. She married Thomas P. Hartz, also from the Pittsburgh area, on January 23, 1946. They enjoyed 59 wonderful years of marriage. Thomas passed away on April 8, 2005. They raised four children, Denise Ferito (George), Thomas Jr (Christine Velten), Beverly, and Kathleen Scott (Ron). She loved and was loved by 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Gloria and Thomas raised their family in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh. Thomas' career took them to Wilmington, Delaware in 1972. They purchased their dream home overlooking the Pacific when they transferred to Pacifica, California in 1976. Gloria worked in administrative positions at Gimbels, in Pittsburgh, for the school district in Wilmington and for G F Atkinson Corp. in Pacifica. She was active with her church, Good Shepherd, in Pacifica, where she made many friends in support of the parish and the Saint Vincent de Paul Society. They enjoyed 59 wonderful years of marriage. Thomas passed away on April 8, 2005. After Thomas passed, Gloria moved to Plano, Texas, in 2007, where she was kept active and happy with family there. She found a shopping and lunch partner in her daughter Denni. Her Dallas-area relatives have been thrilled to have her so close. Gloria's love of reading inspired her to join a creative writing group in Plano, where she made many friends.
Gloria and Thomas enjoyed an active retirement. Always there to lend support and share in celebrations, they crisscrossed the country many times to be with loved ones. Always up for an adventure, they enjoyed their trips abroad, especially ocean cruises to new places. The love that she and Thomas shared for each other brought joy to all of their family and friends. Gloria was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her legacy of love will have an everlasting impact on her family and friends.
Gloria was preceded in death by Thomas, and her grandson Daniel Ferito.
A vigil service will be held St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 2700 W Spring Creek Pkwy, Plano, Texas at 7:00 PM on Monday, August 27, 2012. A mass in remembrance of Gloria will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton with The Reverend Monsignor Henry Petter, officiating. A reception will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research, Boys Town of Omaha Nebraska, Alzheimer's Assoc., or American Cancer Society.
