Memories of Emily
By Bernard Shaw:

Emily was born in Moundsville, West Virginia on October 5, 1941, the youngest of 4 children of Frank and Mary Alice Sypher. She received her nursing degree from Marshall University in 1965 and we were married on June 5, 1965. After raising 5 children she got her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UT/Austin (with honors). She worked in wound care, oncology, and home health care. She was an excellent nurse and was loved by her patients.

Emily and I met our senior year in high school. She was a popular cheerleader and I was the new boy in town. I was truly blessed when she invited me to go to a dance where the girls invited the guys.

That dance invite lead to 7 years of dating, 47 years of marriage, five children, and five grandchildren. Now I have 54 years of very happy memories of Emily. She was indeed the love of my life.

Everyone who knew Emily realized she was someone with a gentle, kind, and loving spirit that guided her strong personal character. Besides our shared life together, things I remember most about Emily are that you could always depend on her to do the right thing and to do what she said she would do. She was also the most unselfish person I ever knew. Even when she was very ill, she was more concerned about others than herself.

I will miss her and think of her every day.

As Ralph Cramden in the Honeymooners used to say: "Baby, you're the greatest!"

Emily is survived by her loving husband Bernard L. Shaw, her 5 children Edward Shaw (Donna); James Shaw (Teresa); Patrick Shaw (Deborah); Laura DeLeon (Anthony); and Mary Shaw, her 5 grandchildren Jonathan Shaw, Blake Shaw, Jayton DeLeon, Dylan Shaw, Madison DeLeon, siblings JoAnn Cunningham; Martha Sumner (David); and William Sypher (Cathy) and many nieces, nephews and friends. Emily was preceded in death by her infant son Bernard Shaw, Jr.

A visitation will be held at Allen Family Funeral Options on Sunday, August 26, 2012 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. A funeral celebrating Emily's life will be held on Monday, August 27, 2012 at First Baptist Church Plano 1300 East 15th Street Plano, TX 75074 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Jim Gray officiating.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Emily's name to: The American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718, www.cancer.org
