Cheryl Reanee Splawn

July 2, 1946 — August 21, 2012

Cheryl Reanee Splawn was born on July 2, 1946 in Austin, Texas to parents Marie and Ralph Higgins. With a smiling face, brilliant mind, and vivacious personality, all that knew her and met her for the first time were always greeted with a smile and a hug. The Higgins family moved to Denton, Texas where Reanee graduated from Denton High School. She was a proud member of the Denton High School Broncos Band where she held first seat saxophone, and later became a Broncos Majorette.
After high school graduation, Reanee started her college career at Kilgore Jr College where she had the honor of being a Kilgore Rangerette. She then moved back to her home town of Denton, Texas to earn her bachelors from the University of North Texas (UNT), then known as North Texas State University. While at UNT, she pledged the Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity, Gamma Phi pledge class of Fall 1966, where she held the position of Social Chairman. While in college, she met her soon to be husband, David Splawn, at a ZTA and Theta Chi mixer. They were the cool cats on campus and everyone admired the "love at first sight" they had. Reanee graduated UNT in 1968 and the day after graduation, married David.
During the early years of their marriage, Reanee worked for IBM. Once the kiddos came along, instead of working outside the home, she decided to help David with the family business and stay at home with their children. Reanee participated in all of her kid's activities. Anywhere from assisting with Cub Scouts, being a Girl Scout Leader, to helping with dance recitals and cheering on the football teams. She did it with love and excitement.
Once the kids were in school, Reanee decided to go back to her career. Her last position held was with Murchison Oil & Gas where she worked for 16 years. After leaving Murchison, she got to enjoy having an empty nest at home and relaxing with David. However, the empty nest didn't last long. Reanee loved every opportunity for her two grandchildren to come over and spend precious time with Mimi. She also loved going with David to his different jobsites and being his company while he worked and continued the family business. They were never apart.
Reanee and David got to enjoy their marriage and each other's company during this time. They traveled to various locations; sometimes by themselves and others with their son and daughter's families. Reanee and David often traveled to Colorado to go snow skiing, Galveston to enjoy the beach, and Reanee's favorite place, Lake Ray Roberts. This is where she could relax and enjoy life.
Reanee passed on August 21, 2012 and will be remembered forever and loved always by those that knew her. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, David Splawn of Plano, son Jason Splawn and his daughter Hayley of Plano, daughter and son-in law Shalyn and Ben Wolfe and their son Benjamin of Allen, sister and her husband Cindy and Trey Beck, and their two sons Brand and Barrett of Plano, sister-in-law and her husband Paula and Ray Myers of Ft Worth, niece Lorie Patch and her two children Brittany and Logan of North Richland Hills along with loving cousins and their families.
A memorial service to celebrate Reanee's life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Christ United Methodist Church, 3101 Coit Road Plano, TX 75075. A reception will follow the service. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in Reanee's name to Christ United Methodist Church - Methodist Scholarship Fund.
