Shirley Kearl loving mother, daughter and friend passed away suddenly August 16th to return to her Heavenly Father. Shirley was born March 1, 1950 in Ogden, UT, the youngest child and daughter of James and Wanda McDougal. Shirley attended public schools in Ogden, graduating from Bonneville High School and then earning an Associate Degree from Weber State University.
Following college she moved to Seattle, WA working as a veterinary technician, beginning what would become a lifetime of service to others through community, charitable and church organizations. In Seattle she met and married Richard D. Kearl giving birth to Michael D. Kearl in December, 1979 and Steven R. Kearl in June 1983. In the fall of 1983 the family moved from Seattle to Plano, TX where she resided until her passing.
Shirley was very active in many groups, charities, school and church organizations including PTA at all levels of the boy's schools. She was particularly active and motivated to serve others and better children's lives. Of particular interest to her were her active involvement with Special Olympics, all types of school groups, and BrikFest which raised money to fund programs for children's health care. She was always eager and excited to serve. She helped with everything from planning and decorating weddings, making Homecoming mums, planning baby showers or birthdays and all other activities celebrating life. Shirley was a proud and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. From her involvement in the beginnings of the Plano 5th Ward, Scout Troop 555, and then onto the Plano 7th Ward, her heart, help and laughter will be missed by all.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents James and Wanda McDougal of Ogden, UT. Shirley is survived by her loving sons Steven Kearl, of Plano, TX; Son and Daughter-in-law Michael & Emily Kearl of Avon, CO; her former husband Richard Kearl, of Dallas, TX; sister Connie Hall and her husband Briggs Hall, of Carnation, WA; brother Bob McDougal and his wife Ellen, of Ogden, UT; along with numerous loving nieces, nephews and their children.
A visitation for friends and family will be held Tuesday August 21, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Allen Family Funeral Options 2120 W. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, TX 75023. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 AM on August 22, 2012 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints 2700 Round Rock Trail, Plano, TX.
