Betty Matthies

Following 76 years of lifelong friendships and a loving, engaging family life, Betty's time on this earth ended Wednesday, July 25, 2012 and she returned home safely to our Father in heaven.
Her sense of humor and spirit of fun was infectious and seldom was there a time when she wasn't welcoming someone into her home. Family was always the center of her life and that extended beyond her immediate family. "Aunt Betty" was always a source of encouragement, affection, and a couple good laughs for her two nieces and six nephews.
She is survived by the love of her life, Bernie, with whom she had happily married 51 years ago. Together they raised two wonderful daughters, Donna Doeringsfeld of Plano and Nancy Gorman (Mark Gorman) of McKinney. Always the devoted mother, she delighted in and cherished the role of grandmother, lovingly doting on her four granddaughters Emma Gorman, Ashton Doeringsfeld, Meghan Gorman, and Katherine Gorman.
She is preceded in death by her parents William and Mae Gillespie, and her brother Raymond Gillespie.
Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at St Elizabeth Ann Seton, Plano, Texas where she had been an active parishioner for 35 years. Her family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM. The Reverend Monsignor Leon Duesman, Celebrant.
